This document specifies methods for the determination of quantity of the following solid and liquid fertilizing products: organic fertilizers, organo-mineral fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, liming materials and inhibitors in packages, containers or in bulk.
This document is applicable to fertilizing products blends where organic fertilizers, organo-mineral fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, liming materials and inhibitors are the highest % of the blend by mass or volume, or in the case of liquid form by dry mass. If organic fertilizers, organo-mineral fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, liming materials and inhibitors are not the highest % of the blend, the European Standard for the highest % of the blend applies. In case a fertilizing product blend is made up of components in equal quantity, the user decides which standard to apply.
This document is not applicable to the quantity determination of: growing media, soil improvers and plant biostimulants.

This document gives the results of inter-laboratory testing to compare the accuracy and convenience of the official EC method for porosity measurement (given in Annex B) with two non-standardized alternative methods (given in Annexes C and D) already used in some participating laboratories.
Three products, with a porosity between 1 % and 7 %, have been used in the inter-laboratory trials.

This European Standard is applicable to the sampling of mineral fertilizers and liming materials supplied or ready for supply to third parties, as a lot or in smaller lots, where such supply or readiness for supply is subject to legal requirements.
This European Standard specifies plans and methods of sampling of a lot of solid fertilizer or liming material, if sampling in motion is not possible, to obtain samples from static bulk heaps in order to ascertain compliance with legal requirements, in particular in relation to the accuracy of compulsory or permitted statutory declarations. The methods specified in this document are not applicable to obtain samples for physical analysis or for the chemical analysis which may be altered by particle granulometric segregation.
This European Standard is applicable to single nutrient fertilizers, to uniform complex fertilizers and to milled or granulated liming materials.
The methods described in this document are not suitable for sampling other types of fertilizer, for example blended fertilizers.
NOTE   The term 'fertilizer' is used throughout the body of this European Standard and includes liming materials unless otherwise indicated.

This document covers reports on three experimental sampling studies which have been performed under mandate M/454 in order to check the accuracy of the developed sampling method for sampling of static heaps by comparing it to the sampling of the same fertilizer product in motion according to EN 1482-1 and to determine which sizes of static fertilizer heap, if any, can be sampled using existing sampling equipment.

This European Standard specifies methods for the reduction and preparation of samples of fertilizers and liming materials and sets out the requirements for sample preparation reports. It also specifies methods for the preparation of test samples and test portions from laboratory samples of fertilizer for subsequent chemical or physical analysis. It does not cover the preparation of samples for certain physical tests which require test portions of more than 2 kg. It is applicable to all fertilizers.
NOTE   The term fertilizer is used throughout the body of this European Standard and should be taken to include liming materials unless otherwise indicated.

This European Standard specifies a method for the chromatographic determination of the amount of iron chelated by each of the individual isomers of the chelating agent ortho para EDDHA (o,p-EDDHA) in fertilizers. The method allows the identification of this chelating agent and the determination of the water soluble fraction of iron chelated by this chelating agent. The method is not applicable for the determination of the amount of free chelating agent.
NOTE 1   This method has been shown to be also suitable for the determination of the amount of iron chelated by each of the individual isomers of the chelating agent ortho ortho EDDHA (o,o-EDDHA) in fertilizers.
NOTE 2   o,o-EDDHA and o,p-EDDHA are abbreviations used in this European Standard for the sake of simplicity. For complete names see Annex C.
NOTE 3   The substances o,o-EDDHA and o,p-EDDHA both exist as different stereoisomers. For o,o-EDDHA a meso form and a d/l pair (the racemic isomers) exist, for o,p-EDDHA two different d/l pairs exist. All four stereoisomers are observed separately in this method.
NOTE 4   Currently, an analytically pure standard only exists for o,o-EDDHA. The method for o,p-EDDHA has been developed with an o,p-EDDHA standard containing an uncertain concentration of o,p-EDDHA.

This European Standard establishes a classification system for fertilizers and liming materials. The classification scheme includes an explanation of the meaning of each heading and clearly assigns each fertilizer or liming material to an appropriate group whilst recognizing that a few fertilizers or liming materials may be classified differently in some countries. The limits for nutrients contents which determine each class may be subject to national legislation.

This document specifies sampling plans and methods of representative sampling of inorganic fertilizers, liming materials and inhibitors for physical and chemical analysis, from packages and containers up to and including 1 000 kg, in liquid and solid form. This document covers sampling of products in bulk only while in motion.
NOTE 1   The sampling of bulk heaps of specified types of fertilizers is covered in prEN 1482 3. Sampling for detection of microbial presence is covered by prEN 1482 4.
NOTE 2   The term product is used throughout the body of this document and is understood to include inorganic fertilizers, liming materials and inhibitors unless otherwise indicated.
It is applicable to the sampling of batches of fertilizer, liming material and inhibitors supplied or ready for supply to third parties, as such, or in smaller batches, each of which would be subject to local, national or regional legislation.
This document does not cover complete, statistical sampling plans.
This document is also applicable to the blends of products where inorganic fertilizers, liming materials, or inhibitors are the main part of the blend in quantity. If fertilizers, liming materials, or inhibitors are not the main part of the blend, the European Standard for the main part of the blend applies. In case a blend of fertilizing products is composed of parts in equal quantity, the user decides which standard to apply. Special care is needed to ensure that the blend is/stays homogeneous and well mixed when sampled.
NOTE 3   It is the responsibility of manufacturers, importers and sellers, however, to ensure they supply a product that complies with its label declaration at the moment of delivery and fulfils the expectations of the end user at the moment of application.

This document is applicable to the sampling of the following solid inorganic fertilizers and liming materials supplied or ready for supply, and stored in static heaps:
-   Single nutrient fertilizers,
-   Uniform complex fertilizers,
-   Milled, granulated or dredged liming materials,
-   Any other materials deemed suitable for sampling by the method described in this part of the standard,
for the purpose of testing for compliance with legal requirements and other descriptions and declarations.
NOTE 1   The term “fertilizer” is used throughout the body of this document and includes liming materials and inhibitors unless otherwise indicated.
NOTE 2   Manufacturers, importers and sellers might choose to use this method to obtain samples of other products or blends as well as long as both parties to a transaction agree. The build-up of a static heap often leads to granulometric segregation, which makes the collection of a truly representative sample unlikely.
NOTE 3   It is the responsibility of manufacturers, importers and sellers, however, to ensure they supply a product that complies with its label declaration at the moment of delivery and fulfils the expectations of the end user at the moment of application.
