CEN/TC 250/SC 4 - Eurocode 4: Design of composite steel and concrete structures

Supplementary to Part 1-1. Additional and varied rules to be used for the design of composite structures which are required to avoid premature structural collapse and to limit the spread of fire in the accidental situation of exposure to fire.

(1) Part 2 of Eurocode 4 gives design rules for steel-concrete composite bridges or members of bridges, additional to the general rules in EN 1994-1-1. Cable stayed bridges are not fully covered by this part.

(3) Provisions for shear connectors are given only for welded headed studs.
NOTE: Reference to guidance for other types as shear connectors may be given in the National Annex.

(1) EN 1994-1-2 gives rules for the design of steel-concrete composite structures for the accidental design situation of fire exposure. It only identifies differences from, or supplements to, rules for normal temperature design.
(2) EN 1994-1-2 only applies to structures, or parts of structures, that are within the scope of EN1994-1-1 and are designed accordingly.

EN 1994-1-1 gives basic rules for the design of steel-concrete composite structures and supplementary provisions specific to buildings.
NOTE Specific rules for bridges are given in EN 1994-2.

EN 1994-2 gives design rules for steel-concrete composite bridges or members of bridges, supplementary to the general rules given in EN 1994-1-1.

ENV 1994-2:1997 gives a general basis for the design of composite bridges. In addition, ENV 1994-2:1997 gives a specific basis for the design of composite structures and members for bridges such as road, railway, and pedestrian bridges, and detailed rules for composite bridge structures such as beam and slab bridge decks, box girders, trusses and columns that support bridge decks.
