To coordinate the work with other standardisation organisations at European level, taking responsibility for applicable mandates from the European Commission and developing European standards only when necessary. To coordinate with IEC/TC 34 and its subcommittees to encourage the inclusion of European requirements in IEC standards within the responsibility of IEC/TC 34 and its subcommittees in order to avoid Common Modifications when adopted by CENELEC
