TC 70 - Degrees of protection provided by enclosures
To prepare international standards including appropriate test methods for degrees of protection provided by enclosures against ingress of solid foreign objects and water and against access to dangerous parts. Such degrees should be expressed by the IP Code. Standardization of access probes for use in IEC Publications. NOTE: There is no intention on the part of TC 70 to establish test methods if they are already available in IEC Publications, e.g. Publication 68. Horizontal Safety Function: Degrees of protection provided by the enclosures against ingress of foreign solid bodies, water and access to live or moving parts and standardization of accessibility probes. Such degrees should be expressed by the IP classification system.
Degrés de protection procurés par les enveloppes
Etablir des normes internationales contenant les méthodes d'essais appropriées pour les degrés de protection procurés par les enveloppes contre la pénétration d'objets solides étrangers et d'eau et contre l'accès à des parties dangereuses. Ces degrés seront exprimés par le code IP. Normalisation des sondes d'accès à utiliser dans les Publications de la CEI. NOTE: Le CE 70 n'a pas l'intention d'établir des méthodes d'essais si elles sont déjà disponibles dans des Publications de la CEI, telle que la Publication 68. Fonction horizontale de sécurité: Degrés de protection procurés par les enveloppes contre la pénétration de corps étrangers solides et d'eau et contre l'accès aux parties actives ou en mouvement, y compris la normalisation des sondes d'accessibilité. Ces degrés seront exprimés par le système de classification IP.

This standard is only applicable to enclosures of equipment where the specific standard establishes degrees of protection of the enclosure against mechanical impacts (expressed in this standard as "impacts").
