ISO/TC 44/SC 6/WG 2 - Resistance welding equipment

Specifies test procedures (leak tightness and pressure resistance of the water circuit, water flow, verification of flexibility at ends, torsion, measurement of insulation resistance, determination of the impedance of the cable, determination of the resistance of the cable, endurance test) for single- and double-conductor secondary connection cables used for resistance welding and allied processes. Stipulates the requirements regarding the electrical, mechanical and cooling characteristics of these cables.

Its purpose is to give specific details or to complement ISO 5826, which deals with general specifications applicable to all transformers, relating to particular transformers within their field of application.

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 5182:1978). Specifies the characteristics of the materials which are used for carrying current and transmitting force to the work. Gives normative references. Defines the term softening temperature. Classifies copper and copper alloys and sintered materials. Specifies test methods, designation, typical applications (annex A), hardness conversions (annex B). Annexes C and D contain properties and bibliography, respectively.

Establishes the dimensions and tolerances of resistance spot welding electrode caps, where a female taper (see ISO 1089) is used to fix the cap to an electrode adaptor (see ISO 5183). Applies only to electrode caps for which the electrode force Fmax given for diameter d1 in the table below is not exceeded. Contains also designation, material and marking.
