ISO/TC 20/SC 6 - Standard atmosphere

Applies primarily to civil and transport aircraft and specifies the test requirements and various test procedures for aerospace equipment which could be subjected to moisture ingress, frosting and condensation, resulting from the passage through atmospheric conditions of high humidity, in combination with or induced by changing temperature and pressure.

Specifies the characteristics of the Atmosphere Type ISO which is applicable to planning under identical conditions, to test results end elements. Permits the unification in the range of tests and calibration of instruments. Is recommended for treatment of results of observations of geophysics and meteorology.

Establishes a global model monthly mean of temperature, pressure, density and wind. These data can be used as a function of geopotential/geometric height. The zone has a latitudinal coverage from 80° S to 80° N, extending from altitudes between 30 km and 120 km. Serves as basis for the design and operation of aircraft and space vehicles.

Mainly amends numerical values in table 4 on page 7, table 10 on page 13, table 13 on page 16, table 16 on page 20, tables 17 and 18 on page 21, table 21 on pages 24 to 27, table 22 on page 28. Modifies curves in figures 1 and 3 on pages 34 and 36.

Presents information on the seasonal, latidudinal, longitudinal and day-to-day variability of atmospheric properties at levels between the surface and 80 km. The systematic variation of atmospheric properties is shown for altitudes up to 80 km by a family of models, comprising the reference atmospheres tropical, sub-tropical, mid-latidude, sub-arctic and arctic. Furthermore temporal and spatial variations and frequency distributions of observed temperatures and densities are given.
