Short link chain for lifting purposes - Safety - Part 5: Chain slings - Grade 4
This Part of EN 818 specifies the requirements related to safety, methods of rating and testing of single-, two-, three-, four-leg and endless chain slings, assembled by welding, using short link grade 4 medium tolerance chain conforming to EN 818-3:1999+A1 together with the appropriate range of components of the same grade in accordance with EN 1677-5:2001+A1 and -6:2001+A1. These chain slings are intended for lifting objects, materials or goods.
NOTE Instructions for use and maintenance of chain slings are covered by !EN 818-6:2000+A1".
The hazards covered by this Part of the standard are identified in clause 4.
Annex A gives an alternative method of rating and marking a chain sling for a specific lifting application.
Annex B contains the bases for calculation of working load limits.
Annex C gives an example of a designation system for chain slings.
Annex D gives an example of identification tags for chain slings.
Annexes ZA and ZB give the relationship with EU Directives.

La présente partie de l'EN 818 définit les prescriptions relatives à la sécurité, les méthodes de détermination de la
charge d'utilisation et d'essai des élingues en chaînes à un, deux, trois et quatre brin(s) ainsi que des élingues en
chaînes sans fin assemblées par soudage composés d’une chaîne de levage à maillons courts de classe 4, de
tolérance moyenne, conforme à l'!EN 818-3:1999+A1", associée à une gamme d'accessoires adaptée de même
classe conformément aux !EN 1677-5:2001+A1" et !-6:2001+A1". Ces élingues en chaînes sont prévues
pour le levage d'objets, de matériaux et de marchandises.
NOTE Les instructions pour l'utilisation et l'entretien des élingues en chaînes sont couvertes par l’!EN 818-3:1999+A1".
Les phénomènes dangereux couverts par cette partie de norme sont énumérés à l'article 4.
L'annexe A donne une méthode alternative de détermination de la charge d'utilisation et de marquage d'une élingue
pour une application de levage générale.
L'annexe B donne les bases pour le calcul des charges maximales d'utilisation.
L'annexe C donne un exemple de système de désignation pour les élingues en chaînes.
L'annexe D donne un exemple de plaquette d'identification des élingues en chaînes.
