EN 15813:2011 specifies a laboratory procedure to determine the flexibility at low temperatures of polymer modified bituminous thick coatings (PMBC) used for waterproofing. The standard defines specimen preparation, conditioning, test apparatus and the bend test method to assess whether coatings crack when bent at low temperatures.   • Foil substrate (e.g., polyethylene) and a frame or gauge for levelling the wet coating.
• Procedure:
  • Place each specimen with the mandrel in the refrigerated box for at least 1 h ± 5 min at 0 °C.
  • Bend each specimen around the mandrel inside the refrigerated box with constant speed over 3 s.
• Results:
  • Visual inspection to determine presence or absence of cracks after bending.
  • Precision data are currently not available.
• Test report must reference EN 15813 and include product identification, wet/dry layer thickness, test temperature, any deviations and test date.
