This document specifies a test method for the resistance to high pressure clean water jetting of pipes, fittings and joints used for drains and sewers.
This test method is also applicable to components for renovation and replacement of drains and sewers.

Trenchless construction and testing of drains and sewers

This document is applicable to the trenchless construction, trenchless replacement techniques and testing of new drains and new sewers in the ground and usually operating as gravity or pressure pipelines, formed using prefabricated pipes and their joints.
Renovation techniques for existing pressure and non-pressure systems are not covered by this document.
Methods of trenchless construction include:
- manned and unmanned techniques;
- steerable and non-steerable techniques.
NOTE 1 Mining or tunnelling techniques for permanent structures (e.g. in situ construction or the use of prefabricated segments) are not covered by this document although some parts can apply to these methods.
NOTE 2 Trenchless insertion using a pipe plough system is a common method for installing small pipes and cables. The method does not exactly cope with the scope of this document. Therefore, it is described in the informative Annex D.
Requirements for associated pipeline installation work other than trenchless construction, e.g. for manholes and inspection chambers, are not covered by this document and are specified in EN 1610. This also applies to pipes that are subsequently installed within entry and exit shafts/pits.

This document specifies general requirements to be respected in product standards for components such as pipes, fittings, inspection chambers and manholes with their respective joints intended for use in drains and sewers inside and outside buildings which operate as gravity systems allowing for a maximum pressure of 40 kPa.
It also specifies general requirements for components used in hydraulically and pneumatically pressurized pipes, drains and sewers.
NOTE 1   Where the term “inside buildings” is used in the context of components fixed inside buildings, it also includes pipes and fittings fixed on external surfaces of buildings.
NOTE 2   This document is not a product standard and therefore not intended for the direct evaluation of products.
This document covers components to be used in conveying in a satisfactory manner:
—   domestic wastewater;
—   rainwater and surface water;
—   other wastewater acceptable for discharge into the system.
This document is applicable to components of circular and other cross sections.
This document is equally applicable to components which are factory-made and to those constructed on site, where applicable.
NOTE 3   This document does not apply to components used for trenchless construction according to EN 14457 and for components used for renovation of drains and sewers according to EN 13380.
This document does not supersede the functional requirements of a complete system as defined in EN 752.

This European Standard specifies a system for the classification of trenchless techniques for renovation, repair and replacement on the same line of drains and sewers outside buildings, operated under gravity or pressure, including pipes, connections and manholes. It defines and describes families of techniques and their different generic methods and materials used.
This European Standard does not apply for replacement by open trenching according to EN 1610 and trenchless construction and testing of drains and sewers as new construction off-the-line of the existing drain or sewer according to EN 12889.
This European Standard does not apply for the specification of requirements for specific products.
For each technique family it lists relevant existing standards, materials and applications and outlines characteristics including installation aspects, structural and hydraulic capabilities and site impact.
This standard does not apply to any work required on the existing pipe prior to renovation, repair or replacement.
This European Standard provides information needed to determine viable options and for identification of the optimal technique with regard to a given set of renovation, repair or replacement objectives.
NOTE It is the responsibility of the designer to choose and design the renovation, replacement and repair systems.
It does not specify the calculation methods to determine, for each viable technique, the required amount of material needed to secure the desired performance of the pipeline to be rehabilitated.
