Centrifuges - Common safety requirements

1.1  This European Standard applies to centrifuges aiming at separation of liquid/liquid/solid/solid or at least two of these substances. It gives requirements to minimise the risks caused by the hazards specified in 1.2.  The Standard deals with the significant hazards associated with the operation of centrifuges.  1.2  The Standard gives requirements for minimising the risks caused by the following hazards:  - mechanical hazards common to all types of centrifuges, except those specified in 1.3; - ergonomical hazards; - electrical hazards.  The standard also covers requirements for noise measurements.  1.3  Types of centrifuges and hazards excluded  1.3.1  Types of centrifuges excluded:  - centrifuges with a kinetic energy of rotation less than 200 Joule; - centrifuges designated by their manufacturers for domestic use; - centrifuges designated by their manufacturers as laboratory centrifuges according to EN 61010-2-020, including Amendment 1; - centrifuges designated by their manufacturers for forming, i.e. centrifugal hot metal casting machines.  1.3.2  Hazards excluded:  - thermal hazards; - hazards specific to processing radioactive products; - hazards specific to microbiological processing - including viral and parasitic hazards; - hazards from processing corrosive and/or erosive materials; - hazards from processes involving flammable or explosive substances; - hazards caused by leakage of hazardous substances; - hazards caused by unsuitable hygienic design for applications involving food products; - other application specific hazards which must be dealt with, either according to application specific standards (e.g. prEN 12505), or EN 292.  1.4  This standard applies to centrifuges which are manufactured after the date of issue of this standard.

La présente norme européenne s'applique aux centrifugeuses destinées à la sépa- ration de plusieurs phases liquides, d'une phase solide contenue dans une ou plusieurs phases liquides ou d'au moins deux de ces substances. Elle donne des prescriptions pour minimiser les risques dus aux phénomènes dangereux spécifiés en 1.2. La présente norme traite des phénomènes dangereux significatifs liés à l'utilisation des centrifugeuses.

ISO 10439-1:2015 specifies general requirements applicable to all such machines.
ISO 10439-1:2015 does not apply to fans (these are covered by API 673) or blowers that develop less than 34 kPa (5 psi) pressure rise above atmospheric pressure. It also does not apply to packaged, integrally geared centrifugal plant, and instrument air compressors, which are covered by API 672. Hot gas expanders over 300 °C (570 °F) are not covered by ISO 10439-1:2015.

This document describes several test methods for measuring the ammonia amount fraction in natural gas and biomethane at the trace level (µmol mol-1). The suitable handling and sampling of pressurised mixtures of ammonia in methane that are applied to several different ammonia measurement systems are described. The measurement systems are comprised of readily available commercial spectroscopic analysers that are specific to ammonia. These NH3 analysers are considered as a black box in terms of their operation, which is dependent on the instructions of the manufacturer. The document describes suitable calibration and measurement strategies to quantify ammonia in (bio)methane around and above the 10 mg m-3 (14 µmol mol-1) level and applies to analysis within absolute pressure ranges of 1 bar – 2 bar, temperatures of 0 °C – 40 °C and relative humidity <90 %.
References are also made to additional standards that are applied either to natural gas analysis or air quality measurements. In this document the matrix gas is always methane or biomethane and the measurand is the amount fraction NH3.
NOTE            1 bar = 0,1 MPa =105 Pa; 1 MPa = 1 N/mm2.

pressure tanks for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail and sea. It is not
applicable to gravity-discharge tanks according to RID/ADR 6.8.2.1.14 (a).
This document includes requirements for openings, closures and structural equipment; it does not cover requirements of service equipment. For tanks for the transport of cryogenic liquids, EN 13530-1 and EN 13530-2 apply.
Design and construction of pressure tanks according to the Scope of this document are primarily subject to the requirements of RID/ADR, Subsections 6.8.2.1, 6.8.3.1 and 6.8.5, as relevant. In addition, the relevant requirements of RID/ADR, Table A, columns 12 and 13, to Chapters 3.2, 4.3 and Subsection 6.8.2.4 apply. For the structural equipment RID/ADR, Subsections 6.8.2.2 and 6.8.3.2 apply, as relevant. The definitions of RID/ADR, Subsection 1.2.1, are referred to. For portable tanks see also RID/ADR, Chapter 4.2 and Sections 6.7.2 and 6.7.3. In addition, the relevant requirements of RID/ADR, Table A, Columns 10 and 11 to Chapters 3.2, 4.2, and Sections 6.7.2 and 6.7.3 apply. The paragraph numbers above relate to the 2017 issue of RID/ADR which are subject to regular revisions. This can lead to temporary non-compliances with EN 14025.
This document is applicable to liquefied gases including LPG; however for a dedicated LPG standard see EN 12493.
If not otherwise specified, provisions which take up the whole width of the page apply to all kind of tanks. Provisions contained in a single column apply only to:
-tanks according to RID/ADR Chapter 6.8 (left-hand column);
-portable tanks according to RID/ADR Chapter 6.7 (right-hand column).
