Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to humid atmospheres containing sulfur dioxide (ISO 3231:1993)

The principle of the procedure specified is to expose a coated test panel to specified humid atmospheres containing sulfur dioxide. A volume of 0,2 litre, measured at atmospheric pressure, is generally recommended for testing coatings of thickness not exceeding approximately 40 µm. The effects of exposure are evaluated by criteria agreed in advance between the interested parties, these criteria being usually of a subjective nature. Applies to single-coat film or a multi-coat system of paints.

La présente Norme internationale fait partie d'une série de normes traitant de l'échantillonnage et des essais de peintures, vernis et produits  assimilés. Elle prescrit une méthode pour la détermination de la résistance d'un feuil à une seule couche ou d'un système multicouche de peintures ou produits assimilés aux atmosphères humides contenant du dioxyde de soufre. La méthode d'essai laisse la possibilité d'utiliser différentes quantités de dioxyde de soufre ; 0,2 litre mesuré à la pression atmosphérique est le volume généralement recommandé pour l'essai de revêtements dont l'épaisseur ne dépasse pas environ 40 µm.

This International Standard specifies a procedure for determining the resistance of a single-coat film or a multi-coat system of paints or related products to humid atmospheres containing sulfur dioxide.
