b) zaključni zidaki iz trdnega kamna:
i. ukrivljeni fasadni paneli za zunanjo zaključno obdelavo zidov, stebrov ali pilastrov;

Overview
EN 12059:2008+A1:2011 (CEN) - Natural stone products - Dimensional stone work - Requirements - specifies dimensional, material and performance requirements for solid natural stone units used as structural and finishing elements in buildings. It covers load-bearing units (columns, arches), horizontal elements resisting live loads (parapets, copings, balustrades), and finishing elements (curved cladding panels, sills, jambs, architraves). The standard excludes stone masonry units (see EN 771-6), cast-on finishes, agglomerated stones, and commemorative or sculptural items that do not meet the defined characteristics.
Key topics and technical requirements
The standard defines measurable requirements and testing references for dimensional stone work, including:
Geometric characteristics
- Thickness tolerances (e.g., ±10% for nominal thickness 15–30 mm; ±3 mm for 30–80 mm; >80 mm ±5 mm), with stricter tolerances optional by supplier.
- Flatness: deviation ≤0.2% of length and ≤3 mm (except natural cleft faces).
- Length/width tolerances (different bands for <600 mm and ≥600 mm and for thickness ≤80 mm or >80 mm).
- Angle, special-shape and edge tolerances and declaration of chamfers.
Surface finish
- Uniform finishing to edges; declaration of patching/fillers where used.
- Defined finishing types: ground, polished, flamed, sand-blasted, bush-hammered, riven, etc.
Material and performance properties
- Declaration of denomination and visual appearance.
- Mechanical and durability criteria referenced to European test methods: flexural strength, compressive strength, water absorption at atmospheric pressure, capillary absorption, apparent density and porosity, frost resistance, thermal shock resistance, reaction to fire.
Quality assurance
- Marking, packaging, evaluation of conformity, initial type testing and factory production control.
- Annex A (informative) on sampling principles and procedures.
Practical applications and users
EN 12059 is essential for:
- Architects and specifiers writing stone schedules and façade details.
- Structural engineers assessing load-bearing stone elements.
- Stone fabricators, quarries and suppliers defining production tolerances and finish quality.
- Contractors and façade installers ensuring compliance for cladding, copings, balustrades and window surrounds.
- Test laboratories and certification bodies performing conformity assessment and factory production control.

The article explains the requirements of the European Standard EN 12059:2008+A1:2011 for natural stone products used in dimensional stone work. The standard includes specifications for structural solid stone units such as load bearing elements and elements used for parapets and balustrades. It also covers finishing solid stone units like curved cladding panels and stone elements for framing openings in buildings. However, the standard does not include stone masonry units, cast-on finishes to pre-cast concrete or agglomerated stones. It also does not cover commemorative or funeral stones and sculptures that do not have the specified characteristics.
