This European Standard specifies, dimensions, materials and performance requirements (including methods of test) for expansion valves, of nominal sizes from DN 15 to DN 40, having working pressures from 0,1 MPa (1 bar) to 1,0 MPa (10 bar).  Expansion valves are intended for fitting to the cold water supply of storage water heaters, having a maximum distribution temperature of 95°C, for all energy sources. Expansion valves do not control the temperature and alone does not constitute the protection required for storage water heaters.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Maße, Werkstoffe und Leistungsanforderungen (einschließlich der Prüfverfahren) für Sicherheitsventile für Expansionswasser in den Nennweiten DN 15 bis DN 40 mit Arbeitsdrücken von 0,1 MPa (1 bar) bis 1 Mpa (10 bar) fest. Sicherheitsventile für Expansionswasser sind für die Ausrüstung der Kaltwasserversorgung von Speicherwassererwärmern mit einer maximalen Gebrauchstemperatur von 95° C, unabhängig von den verwendeten Energiequelle bestimmt.

La présente norme européenne spécifie les dimensions, la nature des matériaux et les exigences de performance (y compris les méthodes d'essai) auxquelles doivent les groupes d'expansion pour des dimensions nominales de DN 15 à DN 40 et avecdes pressions de 0,1 MPa (1 bar) à 1,0 MPa (10 bar). Les groupes d'expansion sont destinés à être installés sur le circuit d'eau froide des chauffe-eau à accumulation, dont la température ne dépasse pas 95°C, quelque soit le mode d'énergie utilisé.

Hydraulic safety groups do not control the temperature. They ensure the hydraulic safety of water heaters if the mechanical resistance of the water heater remains at least equal to the rating pressure.
NOTE   The use of the device specified in this European Standard does not override the need to use controls (e.g. thermostats and cut-outs) which act directly on the power sources of water heaters.
