Overview
EN 50065-2-2:2003/A1:2005 (with Corrigendum October 2006) is a CENELEC / CLC amendment specifying immunity requirements for mains communications equipment and systems operating in the frequency band 95 kHz to 148.5 kHz on low-voltage electrical installations, intended for use in industrial environments. It focuses on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and aims to limit mutual influence between mains communication systems (as defined in EN 50065-1). This copy incorporates amendment A1 and the October 2006 corrigendum; the record indicates a 2021 legacy conversion by DCLab NISOSTS.
Key Topics
- Scope and applicability
- Applies only to the communication portion of multi-function equipment; other functions must meet their relevant immunity standards.
- Excludes safety requirements and immunity between systems operating in the same EN 50065-1 band or PLC on medium/high voltage networks.
- Immunity types and test methods
- Defines immunity to continuous and transient disturbances: conducted and radiated interference, electrostatic discharge (ESD), fast transients and surge events.
- Test requirements are specified per port (enclosure, signal/control ports, DC and AC power ports, earth/functional ground).
- Notable amendments and limits (selected)
- Enclosure port radiated field level revised from 3 V/m to 10 V/m and magnetic field from 3 A/m to 30 A/m.
- Signal/control line ESD increased from ±0.5 kV to ±1 kV (both common and differential mode).
- AC power port test level changed from 3 V to 10 V; surge levels adjusted (e.g., common mode reduced from ±4 kV to ±2 kV, differential to ±1 kV).
- New Table 5 added for Earth port (functional ground) immunity: RF common-mode 0.15–80 MHz at 3 V, and fast transients ±0.5 kV under specified conditions.
- Normative reference updates: replace EN 50082-2 with EN 61000-6-2; update EN 50065-1 references.
- Notes and exceptions
- Special provisions for ITU broadcast bands (87–108 MHz and 470–790 MHz) where specified field levels differ.
- Levels are tailored to industrial environments and do not cover extremely rare high-disturbance scenarios.
Applications
- Manufacturers of mains communication devices and PLC (power line communication) modules for industrial automation.
- EMC test laboratories validating compliance of equipment operating 95–148.5 kHz.
- Design and compliance engineers in utilities, industrial control systems, building automation, and system integrators ensuring robust PLC performance on low-voltage networks.
- Regulatory and certification bodies referencing immunity limits for industrial mains signalling equipment.
Related Standards
- EN 50065-1 (band definitions and general rules for signalling on low-voltage installations)
- EN 61000-6-2 (industrial immunity standard)
- CISPR 16-1 (measurement methods – referenced in the original standard)

1 Scope
This standard applies to electrical equipment using signals in the frequency range 95 kHz to
148,5 kHz to transmit or receive information on low voltage electrical systems, in industrial
environments. In the case of equipment which includes functions other than the transmission or
reception of information on low voltage electrical supplies, this standard applies only to that part of the
equipment intended for such transmission or reception of information. Other parts of the equipment
shall comply with the immunity standard or standards relevant to the functions of those other parts. In
the event of tests being specified in those other standards of a different severity and where the
construction of the equipment is such that the functions cannot be tested separately, the higher
