This amendment A2 modifies the European Standard EN 60335-2-69:2003; it was approved by CENELEC
on 2008-02-01. CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations
which stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any
alteration.

Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on
application to the Central Secretariat or to any CENELEC member.

This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language
made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the
Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

The text of document 61J/271/FDIS, future amendment 2 to IEC 60335-2-69:2002, prepared by SC 61J,
Electrical motor-operated cleaning appliances for industrial use, of IEC Technical Committee 61, Safety of
household and similar electrical appliances, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was
approved by CENELEC as amendment A2 to EN 60335-2-69:2003 on 2008-02-01.
The following dates are applicable:

- date on which national standards conflicting

Automatic floor treatment machines for commercial use - Particular requirements

This International Standard deals with the safety of powered automatic floor treatment machines intended for commercial use indoors for the following applications: - sweeping, - scrubbing, - wet or dry pick-up, - polishing, - application of wax, sealing products and powder-based detergents, - shampooing of floors. The requirements given by this standard are applied in addition to the requirements for commercial floor treatment machines in IEC 60335-2-72, as far as applicable, and mentioned in the relevant clauses. Automatic floor treatment machines solely designed for wet or dry pick-up, additional or modified requirements of IEC 60335-2-69 where stated shall be applicable. Machines covered by this Standard may operate in automatic or manual mode. Modified requirements are given in specific sections of this standard for automatic floor treatment machines not equipped with a manual mode. The automatic floor treatment machines covered by this standard are designed to avoid hazardous contact with persons in the environment applied. It is recognized that automatic floor treatment machines for commercial use might require operation within close proximity to large groups of people, such as in shopping malls and schools. Throughout this standard, the term “machine” is used to refer to an automatic floor treatment machine The following power systems are covered: - rechargeable batteries that are recharged by built-in battery chargers or off-board battery chargers which may be incorporated within the circuitry of the machine, or mounted on the machine and incorporated within the enclosure of the automatic floor treatment machine; or powered by batteries that need to be removed to be recharged with a charger that is external to the machine, - Other systems are under consideration. This standard does not apply to - battery chargers (IEC 60335-2-29); - floor treatment appliances and wet scrubbing machines for household use (IEC 60335-2- 82 10); - floor treatment machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-67); - spray extraction machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-68); - road sweepers; NOTE 101 In Europe, the EN 17106 series covers road sweepers. - machines designed for use on slopes with a gradient exceeding 20 %; - machines equipped with 88 a power take-off (PTO); - machines designed for use in corrosive or explosive environments (dust, vapour or gas); - machines designed for use in vehicles or on board of ships or aircraft. - vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances and automatic battery-operated cleaners for household use (IEC 60335-2-2); - vacuum cleaners designed for pickup of combustible dust; - hand-held mains-operated electrical garden blowers, vacuums and blower vacuums (IEC 60335-2-100); - Electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery (IEC 60745 series, IEC 61029 series, IEC 62841 series); - appliances for medical purposes (IEC 60601-1); - robots and robotic devices: Safety requirements of personal care robots (ISO 13482) - machines with parts that extend beyond the contact zone of the machine NOTE 102 Components of the machine that operate outside the contact zone can be evaluated differently. - machines designed for picking up liquids with a flash point below 55 °C; NOTE 103 The flash point temperature limit may vary in different countries. National regulations will need to be taken into account. NOTE 104 Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements on the safe use of the equipment covered can be specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities;

IEC 60335-2-69:2012(E) deals with the safety of electrical motor-operated vacuum cleaners, including back-pack vacuum cleaners, and dust extractors, for wet suction, dry suction, or wet and dry suction, intended for commercial indoor or outdoor use with or without attachments. It also deals with the safety of centrally-sited vacuum cleaners, excluding the installation of the system. They are not equipped with a traction drive. The following power systems are covered: mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances, battery powered motors. This standard also applies to machines handling hazardous dust, such as asbestos. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2002 and its Amendments 1 (2004) and 2 (2007). It constitutes a technical revision. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the third edition of IEC 60335-2-69 are as follows (minor changes are not listed): - the scope has been revised editorially to avoid misunderstandings; - terms and definitions has been revised with regard to the requirements revised; - the standard has been revised in general and updated regarding state-of-the-art, as far as necessary, in particular some changes have been made to Clauses 15, 22 and 25; - Annex AA was revised and restructured; - Annex CC was made informative; - a new Annex EE 'Emission of acoustical noise' was added and; - a new Annex FF 'Emission of vibration' was added. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 60335-1:2010.

It also applies to steam cleaners and those parts of hot water high pressure cleaners incorporating a steam stage which have a capacity not exceeding 100 l, a rated pressure not exceeding 2,5 MPa and a product of capacity and rated pressure not exceeding 5 MPa x l. They are not equipped with a traction drive. The following power systems of the drive for the high pressure pump are covered: - mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase machines and 480 V for other machines, - battery powered motors, - internal combustion engines and - hydraulic or pneumatic motors. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2002 and its Amendments 1 (2004) and 2 (2007). It constitutes a technical revision. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the second edition of IEC 60335-2-79 are as follows (minor changes are not listed): - the scope has been revised editorially to avoid misunderstandings; - terms and definitions has been revised with regard to the requirements revised; - the standard has been revised in general and updated regarding state-of-the-art, as far as necessary, in particular some changes have been made to Clauses 15, 22, and 25; - a new Annex CC 'Emission of acoustical noise' was added; - a new Annex DD 'Emission of vibration' was added and - a new Annex EE with a model test report for vibration emission was added. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 60335-1:2010.

IEC 60335-2-72:2012(E) deals with the safety of powered ride-on and powered walk-behind machines intended for commercial indoor or outdoor use for the following applications: - sweeping, - scrubbing, - wet or dry pick-up, - polishing, - application of wax, sealing products and powder based detergents, - shampooing of floors with an artificial surface. Their cleaning motion is more linear than lateral or periodic. This standard applies to machines for commercial use. The following list, although not comprehensive, gives an indication of locations that are included in the scope: - public use areas such as hotels, schools, hospitals; - industrial locations, for example factories and manufacturing shops; - retail outlets, for example shops and supermarkets; - business premises, for example offices and banks; - all uses other than normal housekeeping purposes. They may be equipped with a traction drive system. The following power systems are covered: - internal combustion engines, - mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances and - battery powered motors. Battery powered machines may be equipped with a built-in battery charger. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2002 and its Amendment 1 (2005). It constitutes a technical revision. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the second edition of IEC 60335-2-72 are as follows (minor changes are not listed). The standard has be revised completely and changed significantly, in particular with regard to the following clauses: - the title has been changed for better distinction with regard to IEC 60335-2-67; - the scope has been revised editorially to avoid misunderstandings; - Clause 3 has been revised with regard to the requirements revised; - the standard has been revised in general and updated regarding state-of-the-art, as far as necessary, in particular some changes have been made to Clauses 15, 22, and 25; - the markings and instructions (Clause 7) have been revised basically; - a new Annex DD 'Emission of acoustical noise' was added; - and a new Annex EE 'Emission of vibration' was added. IEC 60335-2-2:2009(E) Deals with the safety of electric vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances for household and similar purposes, including vacuum cleaners for animal grooming, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. It also applies to centrally-sited vacuum cleaners and automatic battery-powered cleaners. This standard also applies to motorized cleaning heads and current-carrying hoses associated with a particular vacuum cleaner. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the fifth edition of IEC 60335-2-2 is as follows: The text is aligned with IEC 60335-1:2001, and its amendments 1 and 2. The attention of the National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip thenselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months or later than 36 months from the date of publication.
