Overview
The EN IEC 62343-1:2019/A1:2024 standard, issued by CLC, addresses performance standards and general operating conditions for dynamic modules used in fibre optic systems. This amendment (A1) updates the original 2019 standard and ensures harmonization across European national standards, reflecting the latest international consensus led by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
This document is vital for manufacturers, testing laboratories, and engineers working with dynamic optical modules, focusing on ensuring consistent quality, reliability, and interoperability under specified environmental and operational conditions.
Key Topics
Scope and Purpose
EN IEC 62343-1:2019/A1:2024 establishes general performance conditions applicable to dynamic modules, which are active components within fibre optic systems. These modules require uniform testing criteria to guarantee their functional stability and operational safety across various applications.Operating Conditions
The amendment details mandatory operating parameters including:- Temperature Range: Modules must function reliably within −5 °C to 70 °C (measured at a defined case temperature point).
- Relative Humidity: Operation from 5% to 85% relative humidity ensures viability in diverse climates.
- Vibration Specifications:
- Primary vibration range: 5 Hz to 100 Hz with 1.0 g acceleration or 3 mm amplitude across three axes.
- Optional extended vibration test: 100 Hz to 200 Hz with 2.0 g acceleration.
- Shock Requirements: Shock tolerance is considered optional, depending on specific use cases.
- Input Power: Specifies maximum power values unique to each performance standard.
Standardization Framework
The document underscores adherence to international and European regulatory processes through CENELEC and IEC collaboration. It references the IEC Technical Committee 86C which focuses on fibre optics devices.
Applications
Fibre Optic Communications
The standard supports manufacturers in designing dynamic modules used in optical networks, enabling high-speed and reliable data transmission.Telecommunications and Data Centers
Modules compliant with this standard better tolerate environmental stresses, supporting critical infrastructure in telecommunication networks, data centers, and cloud service facilities.Industrial and Harsh Environments
With well-defined vibration and temperature criteria, dynamic modules are suited for industrial automation environments requiring rigorous performance and durability.Testing and Quality Assurance
Laboratories use this standard as a benchmark to certify module reliability and conformance under generalized operating conditions.
