electronic cigarette [1].

Dieses Dokument legt das Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Konsistenz der Nikotinabgabe einer elektronischen Zigarette über die Gebrauchsdauer des E-Liquids im E-Liquid-Speicher oder über die Dauer einer Batterieladung fest.
Dieses Dokument
- legt die anzuwendenden Geräte fest,
- legt die Vorbereitung der zu untersuchenden E-Zigaretten-Proben fest,
- legt den Vorgang zur Erzeugung von Aerosolen fest,
- legt das Analysenverfahren fest,
- legt die Bestimmung des Untersuchungsergebnisses fest.
Es ist nicht das Ziel dieses Dokuments, nachzuweisen, ob die Nikotinabgabe zwischen E-Zigaretten konsistent ist. Letzteres ist das Ziel eines anderen Verfahrens, das sich derzeit in EN 17634, Elektronische Zigaretten und Liquids für elektronische Zigaretten - Bestimmung der Konsistenz der Nikotinabgabe über definierte Zugsequenzen einer Anzahl von E-Zigarette identischen Typs [1], in Vorbereitung befindet. Zwei unterschiedliche Verfahren wurden entwickelt, um die Konsistenz der Nikotinabgabe zu bestimmen, bis Rechtklarheit über die Festlegung der Richtlinie über Tabakerzeugnisse besteht, dass "Nikotindosen auf einem gleichmäßigen Niveau abgegeben werden" [2].

Le présent document spécifie la méthode de détermination de la constance de délivrance de la nicotine par une cigarette électronique pendant la durée d’utilisation du e liquide dans le réservoir ou pendant une charge de batterie.
Le présent document :
- définit l’équipement à utiliser ;
- spécifie la préparation des échantillons de e cigarettes pour les essais ;
- spécifie le processus de génération de l’aérosol ;
- spécifie la méthode d’analyse ;
- spécifie la détermination du résultat d’essai.
Ce document ne cherche pas à démontrer s’il y a une constance de délivrance de la nicotine entre les e-cigarettes. Cette dernière fait l’objet d’une méthode séparée en cours d’élaboration, l’EN 17634 Cigarettes électroniques et e liquides - Détermination de la constance de délivrance de la nicotine lors de séquences de bouffées définies avec plusieurs e cigarettes identiques [1]. Deux méthodes séparées ont été mises au point pour déterminer la constance de délivrance de la nicotine, en attendant la clarification réglementaire de l’exigence de la Directive sur les produits du tabac stipulant de « libérer les doses de nicotine de manière constante » [2].

1 Scope
This document specifies the method for the determination of nicotine delivery consistency of an
electronic cigarette over the duration of use of e-liquid in the reservoir or a battery charge.
This document:
— defines the equipment to be used;
— specifies the preparation of the e-cigarette samples for testing;
— specifies the aerosol generation process;
— specifies the analytical method;
— specifies the determination of the test result.
This document does not seek to demonstrate whether there is consistency of nicotine delivery between
e-cigarettes. The latter is the aim of a separate method under development, EN 17634 Electronic
cigarettes and e-liquids — Determination of nicotine delivery consistency over defined puff sequences of a
number of e-cigarettes of identical type [1]. Two separate methods have been developed to determine
consistency of nicotine delivery, pending regulatory clarity on the Tobacco Products Directive's
requirement to "deliver nicotine doses at consistent levels" [2].

4 Principle
The test specimens are vaped until exhaustion (of battery or liquid) on a routine analytical vaping
machine with simultaneous collection of sequences of aerosol collected mass. If used, the consistency of
the laboratory vaping process and subsequent analytical procedures are controlled by using a
standardized clearomizer or a reference clearomizer together with a standardized e-liquid as specified
in EN 17375. The aerosol collected mass is used for the subsequent determination of nicotine. The
determined amount of nicotine per sequence can be used for the statistical determination of nicotine
delivery consistency.
5 Apparatus
Use the apparatus as defined by the ISO method for nicotine determination in aerosol. As long as this
standard is not published, use the items listed in Annex A.
