Intermodal Loading Units - Marking - Part 1: Markings for identification

This European Standard provides a system for the identification and presentation of information about the ILU. The identification system is intended for general application, for example in documentation, control and communications (including automatic data processing systems), as well as for display on an ILU and other non ISO containers (i.e. which dimensions and testing parameters differ from those defined by the applicable ISO standards) used in European transport.
The methods of displaying identification and certain other data (including operational data) on ILUs by means of permanent marks are included.
This European Standard specifies:
a)   an ILU identification system with an associated system for verifying the accuracy of its use, having mandatory marks for the presentation of the identification system for visual interpretation, and
b)   a coding system for data on ILU size and type, with corresponding marks for their display;
c)   mandatory operational marks;
d)   physical presentation of the marks on the ILU.
This part of EN 13044 specifies a system to identify the owner of the ILU, which includes an associated system for verifying the accuracy of its use.
This European Standard does not cover temporary operational marks of any kind, permanent marks, data plates, etc. which may be required by intergovernmental agreements, national legislation or non-governmental organisations other than CEN.

Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt ein System zur Identifizierung und Kennzeichnung von ILU. Das Identifizierungssystem ist für die allgemeine Anwendung zu benutzen, wie beispielsweise bei der Dokumentation, Steuerung und Kommunikation (einschließlich automatischer Datenverarbeitungssysteme) und auch für das Anzeigen der Informationen an ILU und anderen „Nicht-ISO-Containern“ (z.B. deren Abmessungen und Prüfparameter sich von den in den anwendbaren ISO Standards unterscheiden) die im europäischen Transport benutzt werden.
Die Art der Anbringung der Kennzeichnung und anderer Informationen (einschließlich betrieblicher Daten) an ILU mittels permanenter Kennzeichen ist eingeschlossen.
Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt:
a)   ein System der Kennzeichnung von ILU, einschließlich eines Systems zur Kontrolle der korrekten Nutzung des Systems mit obligatorischen Kennzeichnungen für die Identifizierung zur visuellen Erkennbarkeit und
b)   ein Kodierungssystem für die Daten zur Größe und zum Type der ILU mit den dazugehörigen Hinweisen zur Anbringung der Kennzeichen;
c)   obligatorische betriebliche Kennzeichen;
d)   die physikalische Anbringungsmethode an der ILU
Dieser Teil der EN 13044 spezifiziert ein System zur Identifizierung des Eigentümers der ILU, einschließlich eines Systems zur Prüfung der Richtigkeit seiner Anwendung.
Diese Europäische Norm erfasst nicht vorübergehende betriebliche Kennzeichen irgendwelcher Art, bleibende Kennzeichnungen, Datenschilder usw., die durch Vereinbarungen zwischen Regierungen, nationale Gesetzgebung oder durch private Organisationen außer CEN eventuell gefordert werden.

La présente Norme européenne établit un système pour l’identification et la présentation d’informations
relatives aux UCI. Ce système d’identification est prévu pour une application générale, par exemple pour la
documentation, le contrôle et les communications (y compris les systèmes de traitement informatique des
données), aussi bien que pour l’affichage sur une UCI et autres conteneurs non ISO (c’est-à-dire ceux dont
les dimensions et les valeurs d’essai diffèrent de celles définies par les normes ISO en vigueur) utilisés en

La présente Norme européenne prescrit :

La présente Partie de l’EN 13044 spécifie un système permettant d’identifier le propriétaire de l’UCI, en

La présente Norme européenne ne couvre pas les marques temporaires d’exploitation quel que soit leur type,
les marques permanentes, les plaques de données, etc. qui peuvent être exigées par des accords

EN 13044-1:2011 - Intermodal Loading Units (ILU) - Part 1: Markings for identification is a CEN European Standard that defines a uniform identification and marking system for non‑ISO intermodal units (for example swap bodies and semi‑trailers) used in European transport. The standard specifies mandatory visual marks, a coding format (owner code, serial number, check digit), rules for physical presentation (size, colour, location) and a verification method to ensure identification accuracy. It is intended for use in documentation, control, communications and automatic data processing systems.

• Scope limits: excludes temporary operational marks, certain data plates required by other national/international rules, and technical data for swap tanks.

Practical uses include asset identification, error‑checking of transmitted IDs (via the check digit), standardised labelling for cross‑modal handling, and improved data integrity in transport systems.
