SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 is the Slovenian adoption of EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026, based on IEC 60730-2-24:2026. It specifies particular requirements for automatic displacement electrical controls used in household and similar appliances and in equipment that uses electricity. The document covers construction, operation and testing for electro-mechanical controls that respond to displacement of the point of action.
What does SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 specify?
SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 applies to automatic displacement electrical controls for use in, on, or in association with household and similar appliances, including AC or DC powered controls up to 690 V AC or 600 V DC. It is written for controls that are mechanically or electrically operated and respond to movement of the point of action.
The standard follows the Part 1 structure and then replaces or modifies the relevant clauses for this control type. The main body covers clauses 1 to 26, with Annex H for functional safety and Annex AA for application guidance.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| H | Functional safety requirements, including drift and deviation checks |
| AA | Guidance for selection, installation and use in end products |
| ZA | Normative references to international publications and their European equivalents |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026?
The control type and its intended use
SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 is for automatic electro-mechanical displacement electrical controls, not automatic electronic controls. Clause 1 also says that controls with temperature sensing elements may need additional requirements, and it points to IEC 60730-2-9 for temperature sensing controls.
In practice, this means a manufacturer has to choose the right control family before testing starts. The document is aimed at controls whose safety function depends on displacement, not on pressure sensing or a manual switch.
The manufacturer has to declare the key technical data
Clause 5 and Table 1 require the technical information needed to design, test and use the control. The table covers the control purpose, temperature limits, number of automatic cycles, free position, disconnection travel distance, self-locking travel distance, limit travel distance, reset travel distance, operation speed, maximum hold-on time, force limit and maximum ambient temperature.
That matters because the declared values become the reference for compliance testing and for end-product integration. If the application changes, the declared values and the installation method have to match the real appliance.
Position limiter and position regulator behaviour is tightly controlled
Clause 9.3.101 treats a displacement electrical control with an integrated protective function as a protective control. For a position limiter, once the self-locking travel distance is reached, the control must not reconnect automatically unless it is reset manually.
Clause 19.15.101 and 19.15.102 then test position regulators and position limiters separately. The tests check limit travel distance or self-locking travel distance after an initial cycle run, so the control must keep its function after repeated operation.
The disconnection point must stay within the declared tolerance
Clause 9.4.3 states that the disconnection travel distance is a type 2 action and shall not deviate from the declared value by more than ±5 %. Annex H uses a micrometer-based method to measure the travel distance and confirm the declared value.
For a buyer or test lab, this means the switching point is not just qualitative. It is a measurable setting that must stay close to the declared value during verification and after endurance testing.
Heating and endurance tests are part of the qualification
Clause 16.5 defines the heating test conditions for the switch head and mounting surface. Clause 19.3.1 then adapts the temperature conditions for endurance testing, including an additional low-temperature check when the switch head is below 0 °C.
Clause 19.1 and Table 1 also link the test programme to the number of automatic cycles. The document sets a minimum number of cycles for disconnection action and for the self-locking mechanism, so endurance is verified under repeated use rather than only at first operation.
Annex H adds functional safety checks
Annex H gives extra requirements for manufacturing deviation and drift. It covers how the control is mounted in a fixture, how sensing is checked, and how the disconnection travel distance is measured and recorded after repeated operation.
This matters when the control is part of a safety function in the end product. The annex focuses on stability, repeatability and the ability of the control to keep working after transport, storage and cycling.
Annex AA explains how to select and mount the control
Annex AA is guidance, not a test clause, but it is important for real applications. It says the end-product manufacturer is responsible for correct installation, and it gives examples for pressure cooker-type appliances.
The annex helps the user match pressure, temperature and current ratings to the appliance, and it describes two installation modes. That makes it easier to choose a control that fits both the appliance design and the safety function.
What terms does SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 define?
- Displacement electrical control - an automatic control in which the point of action moves because the container displacement changes with pressure.
- Position limiter - a displacement electrical control intended to keep the position below one value during normal use.
- Position regulator - a cycling displacement electrical control intended to keep the position between two values.
- Free position - the initial state of the point of action before displacement starts.
- Disconnection position - the point where the contact is opened by the action mechanism.
- Self-locking position - the point where the self-locking mechanism operates and further displacement can continue.
- Reset position - the position at which the disconnected contact reconnects when displacement is reduced.
- Point of action - the point on the control where displacement is applied.
Who uses SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026?
SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 is used by control designers, appliance manufacturers, test laboratories, quality teams and buyers who need to specify or verify displacement electrical controls. The main application area is household and similar equipment, including pressure cooker-type appliances and other products where the control acts through movement of the point of action.
It is especially useful for end-product manufacturers who have to integrate the control correctly, set the declared travel values, and confirm that the safety function works in the assembled appliance.
Which standards are used with SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026?
| Standard | How it is used |
|---|---|
| EN IEC 60730-1 / IEC 60730-1 | The general Part 1 document that Part 2-24 reads with and modifies |
| IEC 61058-1-1 | Covers manual switches that are not part of an automatic control |
| IEC 60730-2-9 | Covers temperature sensing controls |
| IEC 60730-2-6 | A related part for automatic pressure sensing controls, listed in the bibliography |
What does the SIST EN IEC 60730-2-24:2026 document contain?
The document contains clause-by-clause requirements for construction, operation and testing, together with specific modifications to Part 1. It includes required technical information in Table 1, and the main test and measurement arrangements are shown in Figures 101 to 103.
Annex H adds functional safety methods, including drift and deviation measurement with a test fixture and micrometer. Annex AA adds installation guidance and two example layouts for pressure cooker applications.

reset position
P
r
position of the action mechanism where the disconnected contact will be re-connected when
the displacement is reduced
Note 1 to entry: P is indicated in Figure 101.
r
3.4.106
disconnection travel distance
distance between free position and disconnection position
3.4.107
self-locking travel distance
distance between disconnection position and self-locking position
