Overview
SIST EN ISO 11111-7:2005/A2:2017 is an important safety standard under the umbrella of textile machinery regulations, specifically addressing the safety requirements for dyeing and finishing machinery. This amendment updates the original 2005 part 7 standard, incorporating the latest revisions to enhance operational safety, noise emission controls, and machinery control system integrity.
Developed by ISO Technical Committee 72, Subcommittee 8 (ISO/TC 72/SC 8), this amendment aligns with the Vienna Agreement to ensure harmonized international and European standards. It supports manufacturers and users in meeting essential safety expectations and complying with relevant EU directives, including Directive 2006/42/EC governing machinery safety.
Key Topics
- Safety Control Systems: The amendment specifies minimum required performance levels for safety-related control systems on dyeing and finishing machinery, recommending at least PL = d (performance level) per ISO 13849-1:2006 or SIL = 2 (safety integrity level) in accordance with IEC 62061:2005 + A1:2012.
- Noise Emission Standards: SIST EN ISO 11111-7:2005/A2:2017 references type C standards such as ISO 9902 (parts 1 to 7) and ISO/DIS 23771 to address noise measurement and reduction techniques, highlighting the importance of minimizing industrial noise hazards.
- Updated Normative References: This amendment replaces several dated references with their latest versions, including ISO 12100:2010 for general machinery safety principles and EN 1539:2009 regarding mechanical transmission components, ensuring current best practices are maintained.
- Emergency Stop Devices: Clarifications are made concerning emergency stop device requirements to guarantee rapid and reliable shutdown in hazardous situations.
- Risk Assessment Guidance: The adoption of safety levels lower than the recommended PL = d or SIL = 2 is only permitted following a formal risk assessment aligned with latest ISO and IEC standards annexes.
Applications
- Textile Manufacturing Facilities: Ensuring that dyeing and finishing machines operate safely to protect workers from mechanical hazards, noise exposure, and control system failures.
- Machinery Design and Engineering: Assisting designers and engineers in developing compliant textile machinery that meets international safety requirements and reduces liability risks.
- Compliance and Certification: Facilitating compliance with EU machinery safety directives and providing a basis for certification, reducing barriers to international trade.
- Maintenance and Safety Auditing: Offering clear safety performance criteria and control system requirements that support maintenance protocols and safety inspections.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the e
