Packaging - Requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation - Test scheme and evaluation criteria for the final acceptance of packaging

This European Standard specifies requirements and procedures to determine the compostability and anaerobic treatability of packaging and packaging materials by addressing four characteristics: 1) biodegradability; 2) disintegration during biological treatment; 3) effect on the biological treatment process; 4) effect on the quality of the resulting compost. In case of a packaging formed by different components, some of which are compostable and some other not, the packaging itself, as a whole is not compostable.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen und Verfahren fest, um die Kompostierbarkeit und die anaerobe Behandelbarkeit von Verpackungen und Packstoffen mit Hilfe folgender 4 Kennwerte zu ermitteln: 1) biologische Abbaubarkeit, 2) Desintegration während der biologischen Behandlung, 3) Auswirkung auf den biologischen Behandlungsprozeß und 4) Auswirkung auf die Qualität des entstandenen Komposts.

La norme européenne spécifie les exigences et les méthodes permettant de déterminer la possibilité de composter et de traiter en anaérobiose les emballages et les matériaux d'emballage en s'intéressant a quatre caractéristiques: 1) la biodégradabilité; 2) la désintégration en cours de traitement biologique; 3) l'effet sur le processus de traitement biologique; et 4) l'effet sur la qualité du compost ainsi obtenu.
