SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 60384-24-1:2006 and IEC 60384-24-1:2006. It is a blank detail specification for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte, at assessment level EZ. The document tells users how to draft a compliant detail specification and what minimum information and inspection references it should contain.

What does SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 specify?

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 specifies the style, layout, and minimum content for detail specifications for this capacitor family. It is a supplementary document to the sectional specification, so it is used when preparing a product-specific detail specification rather than defining the capacitor itself.

The document is organized into two main clauses:

  • Clause 1 - General data
  • Clause 2 - Inspection requirements

Annex ZA gives the normative references and the corresponding European publications.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007?

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 requires the detail specification to identify the capacitor clearly and to present the information in a fixed format. In practice, this is the template that makes different manufacturers’ specifications comparable.

Clause 1: general data fields

Clause 1 requires the detail specification to state the recommended mounting method, dimensions, ratings, characteristics, marking, ordering information, and other special data. Table 1 is used for case size reference and dimensions, Table 2 for capacitance and voltage values by case size, and Table 3 for electrical and environmental characteristics.

That matters because buyers and designers need the same basic parameters to match a part to a footprint, voltage limit, temperature range, and electrical performance.

Identification and description

The opening page fields [1] to [9] require identification of the body issuing the specification, the specification number, the generic and blank-detail references, a short description of the capacitor, typical construction where relevant, an outline drawing or reference to one, the application or assessment level, and reference data for comparison.

This is the core of a usable part definition. It is what makes a detail specification specific enough for procurement, qualification, and interchangeability.

Marking and ordering information

Clause 1.5 states that capacitor and package marking follow IEC 60384-24. Clause 1.6 requires ordering information to include at least rated capacitance, tolerance, rated d.c. voltage, detail specification reference and style reference, and packaging instructions.

That matters in practice because purchase orders and incoming inspection need unambiguous part identification.

Extra requirements and special data

Clause 1.9 allows additional or more severe requirements only when essential, and Table 4 is reserved for other characteristics beyond the sectional specification.

This gives manufacturers a place to add product-specific limits without rewriting the whole standard.

Clause 2: inspection requirements

Clause 2 links qualification approval and quality conformance inspection to IEC 60384-24. Table 5 sets out sampling, periodicity, severity, and acceptance criteria for inspection groups.

The test schedule covers visual examination, dimensions, solderability, resistance to soldering heat, mounting, substrate bending, rapid change of temperature, climatic sequence, damp heat, characteristics at high and low temperature, surge, endurance, and storage at high temperature. In practice, this is the checklist used to qualify lots and monitor production consistency.

What terms does SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 define?

A blank detail specification is a supplementary document that sets the required form and minimum content of a detail specification.

A sectional specification is the family-level specification that this blank detail specification supplements.

Assessment level EZ is the quality assessment level named for this capacitor family.

Equivalent series resistance (ESR) is an electrical characteristic listed in the tables and checked during inspection.

Leakage current is the current limit used in rating data and in several inspection steps.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a production control method that may replace some in-production dimensional testing when applied.

Who uses SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007?

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 is used by capacitor manufacturers, component specification writers, quality engineers, buyers, and test laboratories. It is also used by approval and conformance teams that need a consistent detail specification for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte.

Typical tasks include writing product sheets, defining ordering data, setting marking instructions, planning qualification, and running lot acceptance tests.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007?

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 depends on IEC 60384-1:1999, the generic specification for fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment. It also depends on IEC 60384-24:2006, the sectional specification for surface mount fixed tantalum electrolytic capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte.

Annex ZA maps those IEC references to EN 60384-1 and EN 60384-24.

What does the SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 document contain?

SIST EN 60384-24-1:2007 contains a structured blank detail-specification template with bracketed fields for identification, capacitor description, outline drawing, assessment level, and reference data. It also contains Tables 1 to 4 for dimensions, ratings, characteristics, and other characteristics.

Table 5 gives the quality conformance inspection schedule, including the inspection groups, sample levels, and the named tests. The notes explain how sampling is handled, when 100% testing is followed by sampling reinspection, and when SPC may be used for dimensional control.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC

in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
the latter.
5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
Publications.
