Overview

SIST EN 61000-4-14:2001/A1:2004 (CLC) is an amendment to the European adoption of IEC 61000-4-14 covering voltage fluctuation immunity testing and measurement techniques for equipment with input current not exceeding 16 A per phase. The amendment refines laboratory climatic conditions, updates the evaluation of test results, and introduces a mandatory test report clause to improve reproducibility and accountability.

This standard is applicable where electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) assessments must address how equipment responds to mains voltage fluctuations. It is intended for use by test laboratories, manufacturers, compliance engineers and product committees tasked with defining performance criteria and pass/fail decisions.

Key Topics

  • Scope and applicability: Targets equipment with input current not exceeding 16 A per phase and aligns with IEC 61000-4-14 as endorsed by CENELEC.
  • Climatic conditions (subclause 8.1): Laboratory conditions must comply with the operational limits specified by the equipment under test (EUT) and test equipment manufacturers. Tests must not be performed if relative humidity causes condensation on the EUT or test equipment. The amendment highlights the need to consider climatic influence where relevant.
  • Evaluation of test results (clause 9): Results are to be classified by loss of function or performance degradation relative to a defined performance level. The recommended classification categories include:
    • normal performance within specified limits;
    • temporary loss/degradation recovering automatically after disturbance;
    • temporary loss/degradation requiring operator intervention to recover;
    • irreversible loss/degradation or damage. These classes provide a framework for product, product-family, and generic standards, and for manufacturer–purchaser agreements on acceptable performance.
  • Test report (clause 10): The standard requires comprehensive reporting to enable repetition of tests and clear pass/fail rationale. Required report elements include identification of the EUT and test equipment, environmental conditions, performance level or criteria, observed effects and durations, and any special conditions needed for compliance.

Applications

  • Use in conformity assessment and EMC type testing for consumer, industrial and commercial equipment rated up to 16 A per phase.
  • Input to product standards and procurement specifications where voltage fluctuation immunity is a requirement.
  • Guidance for test houses to document test plans, environmental controls and objective pass/fail decisions.

Related Standards

  • IEC 61000-4-14 (base international standard)
  • Product-specific EMC standards and generic immunity standards that reference performance criteria

By clarifying climatic requirements, formalizing evaluation categories and mandating detailed test reporting, SIST EN 61000-4-14:2001/A1:2004 strengthens reproducibility and consistency in voltage fluctuation immunity testing and supports defensible compliance decisions.
