Overview
EN IEC 61084-2-4:2024/A11:2024 (CLC/CENELEC amendment A11) is a European amendment to Part 2-4 of the IEC 61084 series, covering cable trunking systems and cable ducting systems with particular requirements for service poles and service posts (free‑standing installation units). Approved by CENELEC on 2024-08-05, this amendment updates normative references, refines construction and test requirements, and adds compliance guidance for manufacturers moving from EN 50085-2-4:2009 to EN IEC 61084-2-4:2024.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope: Particular requirements for service poles and service posts within cable trunking and ducting systems.
- Normative references: Updates to referenced standards (e.g., ISO 536:2019, ISO 535:2014, EN 10028-7:2016) used for test methods and materials.
- Construction: Clarifications on sharp edges, apparatus mounting, cable restraint, access to live parts and protection against water contact during wet-floor treatment.
- Mechanical properties: Revised notes and test references for impact tests, linear deflection, horizontal load and fixing tests (including materials such as stainless steel X5CrNi18‑10 per EN 10028‑7:2016).
- Fire hazard: Spread‑of‑fire testing specified to use IEC 60695‑11‑2:2017 method B.
- Electrical and thermal properties: Requirements for electrical continuity, insulation and thermal retention tests for non‑metallic/composite components.
- Routine tests: Amendment to routine checks for pre‑wired units - "Earth - Correct connection" clarifies verification of earth conductor connection to socket earth pin/contact.
- Annex C (normative): A practical compliance-check matrix indicating which tests are required or not required when declaring conformity for systems formerly compliant with EN 50085‑2‑4:2009.
- Regulatory linkage: Annex ZZ maps the standard to the safety objectives of Directive 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive), supporting presumption of conformity when cited in the OJ.
Applications and users
This standard is essential for:
