This document describes the method of determining the total moisture content of a sample of solid biofuels by drying in an oven and should be used when high precision of the determination of moisture content is necessary. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels.
The total moisture content of biofuels is not an absolute value and conditions for its determination have to be standardised to enable comparative determinations to be made.
NOTE The term moisture content when used with biomass materials can be misleading since untreated biomass frequently contains varying amounts of volatile compounds (extractives) which may evaporate when determining moisture content by oven drying.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Gehaltes an Gesamtwasser einer Probe von festen Biobrennstoffen durch Trocknen in einem Ofen fest und sollte angewendet werden, wenn eine hohe Präzision der Bestimmung des Wassergehaltes erforderlich ist. Das in diesem Dokument festgelegte Verfahren gilt für alle festen Biobrennstoffe.
Der Wassergehalt von Biobrennstoffen ist kein absoluter Wert und die Bedingungen für seine Bestimmung müssen genormt sein, um die Durchführung vergleichbarer Bestimmungen zu ermöglichen.
ANMERKUNG Der Begriff Wassergehalt kann bei der Anwendung im Zusammenhang mit Biomasse irreführend sein, weil unbehandelte Biomasse oft unterschiedliche Mengen an flüchtigen Verbindungen (Extraktstoffen) enthält, die bei der Bestimmung des Wassergehaltes durch Ofentrocknung verdampfen können.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 19 January 2004 for provisional application.
The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to submit their
comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.
CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS available
promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in parallel to the CEN/TS)
until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.

1 Scope
This document describes the method of determining the total moisture content of a sample of solid biofuels by
drying in an oven and should be used when high precision of the determination of moisture content is
necessary. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels.
The total moisture content of biofuels is not an absolute value and conditions for its determination have to be
standardised to enable comparative determinations to be made.
