ISO 11117:2007 specifies the requirements for valve protection caps and guards for gas cylinders.
ISO 11117:2007 defines tests for checking the mechanical strength and physical properties of the valve protection cap or valve guard.
ISO 11117:2007applies to protection devices for valves used on cylinders for liquefied, dissolved or compressed gases. It excludes protection devices for cylinders with a water capacity of 5 l or less and cylinders whereby the protection device is fixed by means of lugs welded or brazed to the cylinder, or is welded or brazed directly to the cylinder. This International Standard does not cover valve protection for breathing apparatus cylinders.
ISO 11117:2007 does not specify all the requirements that may be necessary to enable the valve protection device to be used for lifting the cylinder.

This standard is intended as a guide to the selection of a suitable material and is connected with compatibility of non-metallic materials with gases which may be in the cylinders or the cylinder valves. This standard may be helpful for composite and laminated materials. Other aspects such as quality of delivered gas are not considered. Only the influence of the gas in changing the material and mechanical properties is considered (for example chemical reaction or change in physical state).

This standard specifies a test method to determine the autogenous ignition temperature of non metallic materials in pressurized gaseous oxygen. Autogenous ignition temperature is a criterion for ranking materials, and can be used to assist with the choice of materials used in the presence of gaseous oxygen. Annex B of this standard is a comprehensive bibliography of the published material on which this standard is based.

This standard specifies the essential procedures to be followed when connecting cylinder valves to gas cylinders. It applies to all valve and cylinder combinations connected with screw threads detailed in annex A but excludes breathing apparatus, diving gas cylinders and fire extinguishers. It defines routines for inspection and preparation prior to valving for both taper and parallel screw threads. Torque values are given in annex A for steel and aluminium gas cylinders.

This standard specifies test and calculation methods for the determination of flammability and oxidizing ability of gases and gas mixtures. The first test method determines whether or not a gas is flammable in air. The second test method determines if a gas or gas mixture has a greater or lesser oxidizing ability than that of air. The calculation method uses the characteristics of the pure substances, of which the mixture is composed, to determine the characteristics of the mixture.
