ISO/TC 21/SC 2 - Manually transportable fire extinguishers

This document classifies, into categories, the different kinds of fires each defined by the nature of the fuel. Such a classification is particularly useful in the context of equipment for fire protection and firefighting.

ISO 7165:2017 specifies the principal requirements intended to ensure the safety, reliability and performance of portable fire extinguishers. It is applicable to a fully charged extinguisher having a maximum mass of 20 kg. Subject to local acceptance, application can be extended to extinguishers having a total mass of up to 25 kg when fully charged.

ISO 11601:2017 specifies the principal requirements intended to ensure the safety, reliability and performance of wheeled fire extinguishers.

ISO/TS 11602-2:2010 gives requirements for the selection and installation of portable and wheeled fire extinguishers. It is intended as a companion to ISO/TS 11602-1. It is not applicable to permanently installed systems for fire extinguishment, even though portions of such systems may be portable (such as hose and nozzles attached to a fixed supply of extinguishing media). Extinguishers for use on board aircraft, watercraft and vehicles are outside its scope.

ISO/TS 11602-1:2010 gives requirements for the selection and installation of portable and wheeled fire extinguishers. It is intended as a companion to ISO/TS 11602-2. It is not applicable to permanently installed systems for fire extinguishment, even though portions of such systems may be portable (such as hose and nozzles attached to a fixed supply of extinguishing media). Its requirements are minimum requirements. The use of larger, higher-rated or greater numbers of extinguishers will, in general, improve protection. Extinguishers for use on board aircraft, watercraft and vehicles are outside its scope.
