This document specifies a method for determining and testing the grain size distribution of electro-fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide macrogrit sizes P12 to P220 for coated abrasive products. It is applicable to grits used in the manufacture of coated abrasive products and to grits extracted from coated abrasive products for test purposes.

This document specifies a method for determining and testing the grain size distribution of electro-fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide microgrit sizes P240 to P5000 for coated abrasive products. It is applicable to grits used in the manufacture of coated abrasive products and to grits extracted from coated abrasive products for test purposes.

This document specifies the chemical analysis of silicon-carbide-based abrasive grains and crudes. It is applicable for the determination of the surface impurities of abrasives grains and the determination of the SiC content of crushed crude when the silicon carbide content is greater than 95 % (mass fraction).

ISO 9138:2015 specifies the apparatus and the method for sampling and splitting of a lot of abrasive grains, to be used in the comparative testing of uniformly produced abrasive grains.

ISO 9284:2013 specifies the operational and technical requirements of, and gives guidance on, the installation, checking and maintenance of test-sieving machines. Test-sieving machines are used for determining the size distribution of bonded and coated abrasive macrograins.

ISO 8486-2:2007 sets forth a method for determining or checking the size distribution of microgrits F230 to F2000 in fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide. It specifies the grit designation for the testing of those grits used in the manufacture of bonded abrasive products and general industrial applications and those removed from bonded products, as well as loose grits used in polishing.

ISO 9136-1:2004 specifies a test method for the determination of the bulk density of bonded and coated abrasive macrogrits.

Deals with the chemical analysis of abrasive grains based on fused aluminium oxide. Describes the gravimetric, colorimetric and the atomic absorption spectrometric determination of the silicon dioxid, iron oxide, titanium oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, zirconium oxide and aluminium oxide content and the loss on ignition.

Contains a method for the determination or for checking the size distribution of macrogrits from F4 to F220 in fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide used in the manufacture of bonded abrasives.

ISO 6344:2013 specifies a method for determining or testing the grain size distribution of electro-fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide microgrits P240 to P2500 for coated abrasives as defined in ISO 6344-1. It applies both to those grits used in the manufacture of coated abrasive products and to those grits taken from products for testing purposes.

Relates to the chemical analysis of silicon carbide. Applicable for the determination of the surface impurities of abrasive grains and determining the SiC content of crushed crude when the silicon carbide content is greater than 95 %.

Contains a method for the determination or for checking the size distribution of macrogrits from F230 to F1200 in fused aluminium oxide and silicon carbide used in the manufacture of bonded abrasives.

Sampling is made using a sampling thief. Splitting means dividing into two equal portions using a splitter (commonly a Jones sampler) and repeating this procedure at each of the portions obtained until the sample is 25 % larger than the amount required for testing. The method may be used in the comparative testing of uniformly produced abrasive grains.
