This European Standard specifies dimensional and minimum quality requirements (in respect of optical, visual and wire faults) for polished wired glass, as defined in EN 572-1:2012, for use in building.
This European Standard applies only to polished wired glass supplied in rectangular panes and in stock sizes.
EN 572-8 gives information on polished wired glass in sizes other than those covered by this European Standard.

EN 572-3:2012 - “Glass in building - Basic soda lime silicate glass products - Part 3: Polished wired glass” (CEN) specifies dimensional and minimum quality requirements for polished wired glass used in building. The standard applies to rectangular panes in stock sizes (nominal length H: 1 650–3 820 mm; nominal width B: 1 980–2 540 mm) and defines inspection, measurement and acceptance criteria for optical, visual and wire faults. EN 572-3:2012 supersedes EN 572-3:2004 and is part of the EN 572 series for soda‑lime silicate glass products.

  • Thickness: actual thickness is the average of four caliper micrometer measurements (one at centre of each side), measured to 0.01 mm and rounded to 0.1 mm for tolerance checks. Tabled tolerances are given (e.g., for nominal 7 mm and 10 mm).
  • Length, width and squareness: tolerances on nominal H and B are ±4 mm. Squareness is assessed by difference between diagonals with limits related to pane dimensions.

  • Square welded steel mesh of approx. 12.5 mm pitch, manufactured from wire with diameter ≥ 0,42 mm.
• Quality requirements and acceptance levels
  • One quality level defined by optical faults (distortions seen when viewing strip lights) and visual faults (spot, elongated, linear/extended and wire faults).
  • Observation methods: optical inspection with pane 1 m from strip lights and observer at 2 m; visual inspection against a matt black screen (reflection coefficient 0.2–0.4) with the observer 2 m from the pane.
  • Acceptance criteria: detailed size and concentration limits for spot and elongated faults (e.g., spherical spots >4.0 mm not acceptable); linear/extended faults and wire deviations limits (wire deviation y ≤ 15 mm per metre). No wire penetration or broken wires accepted.
• Designation
  • Specifies how to mark compliant panes (type, EN reference, nominal thickness, dimensions). Example provided.

the secretariat of which is held by NBN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by January 2013, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by January 2013.
