Overview

EN 15767-1:2026 is a European standard developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) that establishes general requirements for portable monitor assemblies used in firefighting operations. Portable monitors are essential firefighting devices designed to project extinguishing agents such as water or foam at high flow rates over considerable distances. This standard defines the safety requirements, performance criteria, test methods, instructions for use and maintenance, and marking requirements for these assemblies, ensuring performance and reliability during critical situations.

The scope of EN 15767-1:2026 covers portable monitor assemblies intended for both portable use and permanent installation on fixed points such as vehicles, vessels, or static mountings. The standard ensures that all portable monitors placed on the European market meet stringent requirements, supporting firefighter safety and equipment effectiveness in diverse operational contexts.

Key Topics

The standard addresses several essential aspects of portable firefighting monitors, including:

  • Safety Requirements
Specifies safety features for construction, operation, and handling to minimize risks during use.

  • Performance Requirements
Defines criteria for hydraulic characteristics, mechanical strength, stability, sensitivity to heat and frost, and mass limits for easy transport.

  • Testing Methods
Establishes protocols for type testing, pressure resistance, leak-tightness, torque and force assessment, and environmental testing for temperature extremes.

  • Instructions for Use and Maintenance
Provisions for comprehensive manuals include user instructions, maintenance procedures, product warnings, and assembly diagrams.

  • Marking and Traceability
Requirements for visible and indelible markings include manufacturer identification, year of manufacture, relevant performance parameters, and conformity to the standard.

  • Customization and Modularity
Allows for different configurations, including fitting systems, operating devices, and attachments, promoting versatility for varied firefighting needs.

Applications

EN 15767-1:2026 is applicable to a wide range of fire protection and suppression scenarios, offering clear value in:

  • Municipal and Industrial Fire Brigades
Ensures that both fixed and mobile firefighting units rely on robust, interoperable portable monitor assemblies.

  • Industrial Facilities and Chemical Plants
Critical for high-risk areas requiring rapid, large-volume agent deployment, such as storage depots or refineries.

  • Emergency Response on Vehicles and Vessels
Covers devices installed on fire engines, rescue vehicles, and fire boats, offering flexibility for both permanent mounting and rapid redeployment.

  • Training and Equipment Procurement
Offers procurement teams and training coordinators a verified benchmark for assessing and selecting safe and compliant equipment.

By standardizing requirements and providing clear, testable criteria, EN 15767-1:2026 supports operational readiness, equipment interoperability, and safety for fire and rescue professionals throughout Europe.

Related Standards

EN 15767-1:2026 forms part of a broader family of standards addressing firefighting equipment and complementary technologies:

  • EN 15767-2: Water Nozzles
Specifies further requirements for water nozzles integrated with portable monitor assemblies.

  • EN 15767-3: Foam Devices
Outlines additional specifications for foam application devices used with monitors.

  • EN 1846-3: Firefighting and Rescue Service Vehicles
Details provisions for equipment permanently installed on emergency vehicles.

  • EN 659: Protective Gloves for Firefighters
Referenced for ergonomic and safety compliance during equipment operation.

  • EN 12266: Testing of Valves
Basis for certain leakage and pressure tests within the standard.

By adhering to EN 15767-1:2026 and its related standards, organizations and manufacturers ensure that portable firefighting monitors meet the best practices in safety, performance, and usability, thus enhancing fire response capabilities across Europe.
