Non-refillable metallic gas cartridges for liquefied petroleum gases, with or without a valve, for use with portable appliances - Construction, inspection, testing and marking

This European Standard specifies material, construction, inspection and marking requirements for non-refillable metallic gas cartridges with or without a valve for use with portable appliances which comply with the requirements of EN 521.
This European Standard is applicable to cartridges with a total capacity of between 50 ml and 1 000 ml, designed to contain stenched liquefied petroleum gas or stabilized mixtures of liquefied petroleum gas with propadiene and/or methyl acetylene and/or di-methyl-ether or equivalent, where the pressure developed by the contents of the cartridge at 50 °C does not exceed 13,2 bar.
However, stenching of these gases is optional for cartridges with a total capacity not exceeding 150 ml.
This European Standard is not applicable for aerosol dispensers — manufactured, filled, tested and marked in accordance with Directive 2008/47/EEC.
This European Standard does not apply to appliances with an integral gas container which is not interchangeable, or to cartridges for filling such containers (e.g. lighters).

Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen an Werkstoffe, Konstruktion, Prüfung und Kennzeichnung metallischer Einwegkartuschen für Flüssiggas, mit oder ohne Entnahmeventil, zum Betrieb von tragbaren Geräten, die den Anforderungen nach EN 521 entsprechen, fest.
Diese Norm gilt für Kartuschen mit einem Gesamtfassungsraum zwischen 50 ml und 1 000 ml zur Auf¬nahme von odoriertem Flüssiggas oder stabilisierte Mischungen von Flüssiggas mit Propadien und/oder Methylacetylen und/oder Dimethylether o. ä., wobei der Füllüberdruck der Kartusche 13,2 bar bei 50 °C nicht übersteigt.
Für Kartuschen mit einem Gesamtfassungsraum bis einschließlich 150 ml, ist die Odorierung dieser Gase freige¬stellt.
Diese Norm gilt nicht für Aerosolbehälter, die in Übereinstimmung mit Richtlinie 2008/47/EWG hergestellt, gefüllt, geprüft und gekennzeichnet sind.
Diese Norm gilt weder für Geräte mit eingebautem, nicht auswechselbarem Gasbehälter noch für Kartuschen zum Befüllen dieser Behälter (z. B. Feuerzeuge).

La présente Norme européenne prescrit les exigences concernant les matériaux, la construction, le contrôle et le marquage des cartouches métalliques à gaz, non rechargeables, avec ou sans valve, destinées à alimenter des appareils portatifs conformes aux exigences de l'EN 521.
La présente norme est applicable à des cartouches d’une capacité totale comprise entre 50 ml et 1 000 ml, destinées à contenir des gaz de pétrole liquéfiés odorisés ou leurs mélanges stables avec du propadiène et/ou du méthylacétylène et/ou de l'éther diméthylique ou analogue, dont la pression de remplissage ne dépasse pas 13,2 bar relatifs à 50 °C.
Toutefois l'odorisation de ces gaz est facultative s'ils sont contenus dans des cartouches d’une capacité totale n'excédant pas 150 ml.
La présente Norme européenne ne s’applique pas aux générateurs aérosols, fabriqués, remplis, vérifiés et marqués suivant la Directive 2008/47/CE.
La présente Norme européenne ne s'applique pas aux appareils possédant un récipient de gaz intégré non interchangeable ni aux cartouches permettant de remplir ces récipients (par exemple les briquets).

Ta evropski standard določa zahteve za material, izvedbo, nadzor in označevanje za kovinske kartuše za enkratno uporabo, z ventilom ali brez njega, za prenosne aparate v skladu z zahtevami standarda EN 521. Ta evropski standard se uporablja za kartuše s skupno kapaciteto med 50 ml in 1000 ml za zasmrajen utekočinjen naftni plin ali stabilizirane mešanice utekočinjenega naftnega plina s propadienom in/ali metilacetilenom in/ali dimetiletrom ali enakovredno snovjo, pri čemer tlak zaradi vsebine kartuše pri 50 °C ne preseže 13,2 bara. EN 417:2012 is the CEN (European) standard for non‑refillable metallic gas cartridges containing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for use with portable appliances. It sets mandatory requirements for materials, construction, inspection, testing and marking of cartridges with total capacity between 50 ml and 1 000 ml, where the cartridge contents generate no more than 13.2 bar at 50 °C. The standard covers both pierceable cartridges and cartridges with valves, and defines tests and type‑examination procedures to ensure safe performance in normal use and foreseeable misuse.

  • Cartridges must not leak or burst below 1.2 × test pressure (minimum factor specified).
• Marking & inspection: Mandatory marking information, manufacturing/filling tests and type testing procedures for conformity and traceability.

–20 °C to + 70 °C. 4.2.7 The dimensions of the cartridge shall be such so as to ensure that it is compatible with the appliances designated on the cartridge (see 8.2). 4.2.8 The internal leakage limiter shall not disturb the correct operation of the cartridge and/or the appliance. 4.3 Pierceable cartridges 4.3.1 General Pierceable cartridges shall not be fitted with valve cups. Pierceable cartridges shall be fitted with an internal leakage limiter (an example of design is shown for information in Figure 6). 4.3.2 Type 200 cartridges For type 200 cartridges, (inside diameter 86 mm, containing approximately 190 g of gas), the dimensions in Figure 1 shall be maintained.
