BMX bicycles - Safety requirements and test methods
This European Standard specifies safety and performance requirements for the design, assembly and testing of BMX bicycles and sub-assemblies intended for use in any type of location such as roads and/or tracks and/or ramps. It applies to specialised types of bicycle designed and equipped for activities such as acrobatic ground manoeuvres, stunting and aerobatic manoeuvres and lays down guidelines for instructions on the use and care of such BMX bicycles.
It applies to BMX bicycles on which the saddle height can be adjusted to provide a minimum saddle height of 435 mm or more.
It applies to:
a) category 1, BMX designed for a rider mass of 45 kg or less;
b) category 2, BMX designed for a rider mass more than 45 kg.
It does not apply to BMX bicycles for use in sanctioned competition events.
No requirements on lighting set, reflectors and warning devices are specified in this European Standard due to the existence of several different national regulations applicable in the European countries.
BMX-Fahrräder - Sicherheitstechnische Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren
Diese Europäische Norm legt sicherheitstechnische Anforderungen und Leistungsanforderungen für die Konstruktion, Montage und Prüfung von BMX Fahrrädern sowie für deren Baugruppen fest, die für die Verwendung in einer beliebigen Umgebung bestimmt sind, wie etwa auf Straßen und/oder Parcours und/oder Rampen. Sie bezieht sich auf besondere Fahrradtypen, die für Aktivitäten, wie beispielsweise akrobatische Geländefahrten, Kunststücke und Sprünge konstruiert und ausgestattet sind, und legt die Gebrauchs-anweisungen für die Verwendung und Wartung solcher BMX Fahrräder fest.
Sie gilt für BMX Fahrräder mit verstellbarem Sattel, sodass eine Mindestsattelhöhe von 435 mm gegeben ist.
Sie gilt für:
a) Kategorie 1: BMX Fahrräder, die für 45 kg Fahrergewicht konstruiert sind;
b) Kategorie 2: BMX Fahrräder, die für 45 kg Fahrergewicht konstruiert sind.
Sie gilt nicht für BMX Fahrräder, die bei genehmigten Wettbewerben verwendet werden.
Aufgrund der unterschiedlichen in Europa geltenden nationalen Vorschriften legt diese Europäische Norm keine Anforderungen an die Beleuchtungsanlage, Reflektoren und Warnvorrichtungen fest.

La présente norme européenne spécifie les exigences de sécurité et de performance à observer lors de la
conception, de l’assemblage et des essais des bicyclettes BMX et des sous-ensembles destinés à une
utilisation tout terrain tel que les routes et/ou les pistes et/ou les rampes. Elle s'applique aux types de
bicyclettes spécialisées conçues et équipées pour des activités telles que les figures acrobatiques au sol, les
cascades et les figures acrobatiques et précise les lignes directrices relatives aux instructions liées à
l’utilisation et à l’entretien des bicyclettes BMX.
Elle s’applique aux bicyclettes BMX sur lesquelles la selle peut être réglée pour offrir une hauteur minimale de
selle supérieure ou égale à 435 mm.
Elle s’applique aux bicyclettes :
a) BMX de catégorie 1, conçue pour des cyclistes dont le poids est inférieur ou égal à 45 kg ;
b) BMX de catégorie 2, conçue pour des cyclistes dont le poids est supérieur à 45 kg.
Elle ne s‘applique pas aux bicyclettes BMX utilisées dans les compétitions réglementées.
La présente Norme européenne ne comporte pas d’exigences relatives aux dispositifs d’éclairage de
signalisation et aux avertisseurs sonores compte tenu des différentes réglementations nationales applicables
dans les pays européens.
