This European Standard sets the connection dimensions of carrier vehicles for the transport of non-stackable swap bodies of class C following CEN/TS 13853 on the road. The standard also contains specifications for the transport of stackable swap bodies according to CEN/TS 13853, for swap tanks class C according to EN 1432 and 20' ISO-containers according to ISO 668. The standard only describes the necessary interfaces to the transport body. In this, the permitted total weight of the carrier vehicle must not be exceeded.

Diese Norm legt die Anschlussmaße von Trägerfahrzeugen für den Transport von nicht stapelbaren Wechselbehältern der Klasse C nach DIN CEN/TS 13853 auf der Straße fest. Die Norm enthält auch Festlegungen für den Transport von stapelbaren Wechselbehältern nach DIN CEN/TS 13853, von Wechseltanks der Klasse C nach DIN EN 1432 und von 20' ISO-Containern nach DIN ISO 668. Die Norm beschreibt nur die notwendigen Schnittstellen zum Transportbehälter, wobei die zulässigen Gesamtgewichte der Trägerfahrzeuge nicht überschritten werden dürfen.

prEN 16972 - Road vehicles: Carrying vehicles for swap bodies class C, swap tanks class C and 20' ISO containers - Interface dimensions (CEN draft, 2016).

This European Standard sets the required connection and interface dimensions on carrier vehicles used for transporting non‑stackable swap bodies of class C (per CEN/TS 13853). It also contains interface specifications for stackable swap bodies, swap tanks (EN 1432) and 20' ISO containers (ISO 668). prEN 16972 defines only the necessary vehicle-to‑body interfaces; it does not change vehicle permissible total weight - that limit must not be exceeded.

• Twist lock systems: Inner parts must be lowerable; locking systems must resist static/dynamic forces during transport and loading, be vibration‑proof, and meet geometrical requirements detailed in Annex A. Locks may be separate devices or integrated into cross‑members.
• ADR considerations: For carriage of dangerous goods (demountable tanks), fastenings must meet ADR static and dynamic stress requirements (calculations or physical testing).
