This document specifies a titrimetric method for the determination of acid value in light coloured Fatty Acid Methyl Esters, hereinafter referred as FAME.
It allows the determination of acid value within a range of 0,10 mg KOH/g to 1,00 mg KOH/g.
NOTE 1 For the purposes of this document, the terms "% (m/m)" and "% (V/V)" are used to represent respectively the mass fraction and the volume fraction.
NOTE 2 For oils and fats the determination of acid value is specified in EN ISO 660 [1].

Dieses Dokument legt ein titrimetrisches Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Säurezahl von schwach gefärbten Fettsäure-Methylestern, nachstehend als FAME bezeichnet, fest.
Es ermöglicht die Bestimmung der Säurezahl im Bereich von 0,10 mg KOH/g bis 1,00 mg KOH/g.
ANMERKUNG 1 Für die Zwecke dieses Dokuments wird zur Angabe des Massenanteils einer Substanz der Ausdruck „% (m/m)“ und für den Volumenanteil einer Substanz der Ausdruck „% (V/V)“ verwendet.
ANMERKUNG 2 Für alle Öle und Fette ist die Bestimmung der Säurezahl in EN ISO 660 [1] festgelegt.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode titrimétrique pour la détermination de l’indice d’acide des esters méthyliques d’acides gras légèrement colorés, désignés dans le présent document par le terme EMAG.
Il permet la détermination de l’indice d’acide dans une plage de concentrations comprise entre 0,10 mg de KOH/g et 1,00 mg de KOH/g.
NOTE 1 Pour les besoins du présent document, les termes « % (m/m) » et « % (V/V) » sont respectivement utilisés pour représenter la fraction massique et la fraction volumique.
NOTE 2 Pour les corps gras, la détermination de l'indice d'acide est spécifiée dans l’EN ISO 660 [1].

This document (EN 14104:2021) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 307 “Oilseeds,
vegetable and animal fats and oils and their by-products - Methods of sampling and analysis”, the
secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by July 2021, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by July 2021.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 14104:2003.
In comparison with the previous edition, the following technical modifications have been made:
a) Clause 5 “Reagents” revised for clarification;
b) automated titration system applying optical detection added as alternative;
c) document revised editorially.

1 Scope
This document specifies a titrimetric method for the determination of acid value in light coloured Fatty
Acid Methyl Esters, hereinafter referred as FAME.
