Coil coated metals - Test methods - Part 9: Resistance to water immersion

This document specifies the procedure for determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating on a metallic substrate.
The test is applicable to all kinds of organic coatings, including metallics and embossed, textured, pearlescent and printed coatings. The results of the test give an indication of the resistance of the coil coated metal to water.
The method is not intended to reproduce any particular condition of condensation.

Dieses Dokument legt das Verfahren zum Bestimmen der Beständigkeit einer organischen Beschichtung auf einem metallischen Substrat gegen Eintauchen in Wasser fest.
Die Prüfung ist auf alle Arten von organischen Beschichtungen anwendbar, einschließlich Metallic- und Struktur-Beschichtungen, geprägte und bedruckte Beschichtungen, Beschichtungen mit Perlglanzeffekt. Die Ergebnisse der Prüfung geben einen Hinweis auf die Beständigkeit des bandbeschichteten Metalls gegen Wasser.

Le présent document décrit le mode opératoire permettant de déterminer la résistance à l’immersion dans l’eau d’un revêtement organique appliqué sur un subjectile métallique.
Cet essai s’applique à tous les types de revêtements organiques, y compris les revêtements métallisés, embossés, texturés, nacrés et imprimés. Les résultats de l’essai permettent d’évaluer la résistance à l’eau de la tôle prélaquée.

Ta del standarda EN 13523 opisuje postopek za določanje odpornosti proti vodi pri potapljanju organske prevleke na kovinski podlagi. Preskus se uporablja za vse vrste organskih prevlek, vključno s kovinsko in žigosano, teksturno, biserno in za tiskane prevleke. Rezultati preskusa podajo vrednost odpornosti prevlečene kovine, ki se navija, proti vodi pri potapljanju. Metoda ni namenjena poustvarjanju določenih pogojev kondenzacije.

This document (EN 13523-9:2022) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 “Paints and
varnishes”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2022, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by August 2022.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 13523-9:2014.
The main changes are:
a) EN ISO 3696 has been added to 6.1 as reference for the deionised water;
