Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-102: Particular requirements for gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances having electrical connections

This European Standard deals with the safety of gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances having electrical connections, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. This standard covers the electrical safety and some other safety aspects of these appliances. All safety aspects of these appliances, including those relevant to the noise emitted, are only covered when the appliance also complies with the relevant product standard for the fuel-burning appliance.

2 Modification to Clause 1, “Scope”
Replace the second and third paragraph starting with “This International Standard deals…” up to “… relevant
Part 2 of IEC 60335”, excluding Note 101, with the following:
“This document deals with the electrical safety of gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances having electrical
connections, for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-
phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
This document covers the electrical safety of these appliances. All safety aspects of these appliances, including
those relevant to the noise emitted, are only covered when the appliance also complies with the relevant product
standard for the fuel-burning appliance. If the appliance incorporates electric heating sources, safety aspects
concerning these electric sources are covered when the appliance also complies with the relevant Part 2 of
EN 60335.”
Replace the fourth paragraph starting with “Appliances not intended for…” up to ” within the scope of this
standard” with the following:
“Additional requirements for appliances and machines with moving parts and intended for commercial use are
given in Annex ZE.
NOTE Z101 Examples of appliance for household environment are appliances for typical housekeeping functions used in
the household environment and appliances for typical housekeeping functions used by non-expert users:
—  in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
—  in farm houses,
—  by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments,
—  in bed and breakfast type environments.
NOTE Z102 Household environment includes the dwelling and its associated buildings, the garden, etc.”
Replace the sixth paragraph starting with “However, in general, it does not take into account…” up to “… children
playing with the appliance”, including two dashed items, with the following:
“However, in general, it does not take into account:
— children playing with the appliance;
— the use of the appliance by very young children;
— the use of the appliance by young children without supervision.
It is recognized that very vulnerable people can have needs beyond the level addressed in this document.”
Add a new paragraph before Note 102:
“This document is read in conjunction with the relevant standards for fuel-burning appliances and for control
devices. Examples are listed in Annexes ZAA and ZBB.”
3 Modification to Clause 2, “Normative references”
Addition:
EN 298:2022, Automatic burner control systems for burners and appliances burning gaseous or liquid fuels
EN IEC 60747-5-5:2020, Semiconductor devices - Part 5-5: Optoelectronic devices – Photocouplers
(IEC 60747-5-5:2020)
EN 61810-1:2015, Electromechanical elementary relays – Part 1: General and safety requirements
(IEC 61810-1:2015)
4 Modification to Clause 3, “Terms and definitions”
Replace 3.8.101 with the following:
3.8.101
lock-out
process in which the appliance goes into one of two lock-out conditions following shut-down
Addition:
3.8.Z101.1
non-volatile lock-out
condition following shut-down from which the appliance can only be restarted by a manual reset
3.8.Z101.2
volatile lock-out
condition following shut-down from which the appliance can be restarted either by a manual reset or by an
interruption of the power supply and its subsequent restoration
3.8.102
Modification
Replace the words “gaseous or liquid fuel” with “gaseous, liquid or solid fuel”
5 Modification to Clause 11, “Heating”
11.8 Modification
In the addition, replace first sentence with:
The temperature rises of the electrical equipment are measured under the operating conditions given in the
relevant fuel-burning appliance standard.
Those temperature rises measured according to the relevant fuel-burning appliance standard are not measured
again.
As impacted by EN 61810-1:2015/AC:2017, EN 61810-1:2015/AC:2018 and EN 61810-1:2015/A1:2020.
NOTE  Examples of standard are listed in Annex ZAA.
6 Modification to Clause 13, “Leakage current and electric strength at operating
temperature”
13.1 Addition:
For appliances which are assembled on site, the leakage current and electrical strength tests on the complete
appliance need not be performed if the components and sub-assemblies have been separately tested and the
interconnection is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
The sum of leakage currents of components and sub-assemblies shall not exceed the values given in 13.2
If the disconnection of protective impedance or radio interference filters is not possible, the limit specified for
leakage currents is to be calculated taking into account the current through those circuits or components.
13.2 Replace the text of the modification with:
For gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances, the limit is 5 mA.
7 Modification to Clause 15, “Moisture resistance”
15.2 Replace the first sentence of the second paragraph starting with ” Cooking ranges and hobs…” up to “…
detachable burner heads being in position” with the following:
Cooking ranges and hobs are positioned so that the hob surface is horizontal, detachable burner heads and
knobs of fuel valves or taps being in position.
8 Modification to Clause 16, “Leakage current and electric strength”
16.2 Replace the text of the modification with :
For gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances, the limit is 5 mA.
9 Modification to Clause 19, “Abnormal operation”
19.11.1 Modification:
In the first paragraph of Part 1, replace ” a) to g)” with ” a) to za)”.
19.11.2 Modification:
In the first paragraph of Part 1 starting with “The following fault conditions…”, add the following new fault
condition:
za) “short-circuit” and “mechanical break-down” of relay contacts in protective electronic circuits. The failure
g
modes need not be considered if components comply with footnote to Table E.1 of EN 298:2022.
In the first paragraph of the addition of Part 2, add the following:
This requirement for fuel valves does not apply if these valves comply with the relevant control standards listed
in Annex ZBB.
19.11.3 Modification:
In the second paragraph starting with “A fault as indicated.”, replace ” a) to g)” with ” a) to za)”
Add the following new paragraph:
Tests are not repeated for protective electronic circuits complying with the relevant control standard listed in
