SIST EN ISO 11111-3:2005/A1:2010 is the Slovenian adoption of an amendment to the nonwoven machinery part of the Textile machinery - Safety requirements series. It updates safety-related references and a few machine-specific provisions for nonwoven machinery, especially carding machines, needle punching machines, stitch bonding machines, cylinder dryers and batching machines. It also updates the annexes that relate the standard to EU machinery directives.

Clause 2 replaces older references with newer editions of the companion parts and with ISO/DIS 13857:2006 for safety distances. Clause 4, Clause 6 and Clause 7 also replace references to ISO 11111-1:2005 with ISO 11111-1:2009.

In practice, this matters because the safety requirements in this part depend on the current common requirements for textile machinery. If you design, verify or buy nonwoven machinery, you need to align the machine with the updated companion standards, not the older editions.

Carding machines

Clause 5.3 updates the references for carding machines and changes the safety-distance citation to ISO/DIS 13857:2006. That means the guarding and reach-distance logic for this machine type is tied to the newer safety-distance approach.

Needle punching machines

Clause 5.4 adds a specific guarding requirement for openings in the machine side frame at needle board level when the needle boards are exchanged. It also requires that, with the door open, the needle board can move completely from the holding down board in the direction of reciprocation only by a handwheel or similar manual device.

In practice, this reduces exposure during setup and maintenance. It tells the designer or retrofit engineer what kind of access control and manual movement arrangement is acceptable during needle-board changeout.

Stitch bonding machines, cylinder dryers and batching machines

Clause 5.5 updates stitch bonding machines to ISO 11111-6:2009. Clause 5.6 updates cylinder dryers to ISO 11111-7:2009. Clause 5.7 updates batching machines to ISO 11111-1:2009.

For users, these are reference updates, but they are important because they decide which companion safety rules apply to each machine type.

EU directive relationship

Annex ZA and Annex ZB link the standard to EU machinery directives, and Annex ZC adds the European Standard relationship to Directive 2006/42/EC. This is the part people use when they need to map the standard to conformity work under EU machinery legislation.

This amendment modifies EN ISO 11111-3:2005 / ISO 11111-3:2005. The stated changes are:

of interest to European standardization. In accordance with the ISO-lead mode of collaboration as

This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN ISO 11111-3:2005; it was approved by CEN on 3 July 2009.

amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the CEN Management Centre or to any CEN member.

This document (EN ISO 11111-3:2005/A1:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 72
"Textile machinery and accessories" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 214 “Textile
machinery and accessories” the secretariat of which is held by SNV.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by January 2010, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by January 2010.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
