This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for helmets worn by users of pedal cycles, skateboards and roller skates.
Requirements and the corresponding methods of test are given for the following:
-   construction, including field of vision;
-   shock absorbing properties;
-   retention system properties, including chin strap and fastening devices;
-   marking and information.

EN 1078:2012+A1:2012 is the CEN (European) standard that specifies requirements and test methods for helmets worn by pedal cyclists, skateboard users and roller skaters. It sets safety, construction and marking rules to ensure helmets provide reliable impact protection and retainment under real-world conditions. The standard covers materials, shock-absorbing performance, retention systems (chin straps and fasteners), field of vision, durability, testing procedures and manufacturer information.

• Ease of release: With test load applied, the release mechanism must be openable with one hand.
• Materials & durability: Skin-contact materials must resist sweat and toiletries and not cause skin disorders. After defined tests, helmets must not have hazardous sharp edges.
• Testing requirements: Uses standardized headforms (EN 960:2006), specific sample quantities (four helmets per size), and defined procedures for impact, retention and field-of-vision testing.
• Marking & information: Manufacturers must supply required markings and user information in line with the standard.
