Overview

SIST EN ISO 5802:2009/A1:2015 is a European amendment to the international standard ISO 5802:2001, focusing on the performance testing of industrial fans in situ. Published by CEN in 2015, this minor amendment refines measurement techniques and clarifies dimensions related to fan testing when installed in their operational environment. The standard addresses challenges related to assessing fan efficiency and performance directly at the installation site rather than in a lab setting, enhancing accuracy in real-world conditions.

Key Topics

  • In situ performance testing: Provides methods for evaluating fan performance on-site, reflecting actual operational conditions.
  • Measurement parameters: Defines the critical dimensions and test set-ups for velocity, pressure, and airflow measurements.
  • Dimension corrections: Updates specific figure dimensions (e.g., from 0.32D to 0.032D), essential for precise placement of measurement grids and sensors.
  • Technical collaboration: Developed by ISO/TC 117 “Fans” alongside CEN/TC 156 “Ventilation for buildings,” ensuring alignment with ventilation requirements.
  • Amendment highlights: Modifies figures and measurement guidelines to correct earlier inaccuracies and improve repeatability of tests.

Applications

  • Industrial ventilation systems: Enables accurate performance verification of fans used in factories, warehouses, and processing plants.
  • HVAC design and commissioning: Supports engineers in validating fan specifications after installation, ensuring system efficiency and compliance.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting: Helps identify performance deviations or degradation over time by comparing current in situ measurements against baseline data.
  • Energy efficiency audits: Facilitates evaluation of fan energy consumption and optimization under actual working conditions, supporting sustainability goals.
  • Quality control: Assists manufacturers and installers in validating fan performance according to international standards before handover.

Related Standards

  • ISO 5801 – Laboratory testing of industrial fans, focusing on standardized lab tests distinct from in situ conditions.
  • ISO 12759 – Vocabulary and definitions related to fans ensuring consistent terminology across standards.
  • EN 12101 series – Covers smoke and heat control ventilation systems where fan performance testing is critical.
  • ISO 14694 – Concerns centrifugal fans, complementing ISO 5802 in product-specific performance evaluation.
  • ISO 5167 – Addresses flow measurement, relevant for instrumentation used in fan performance tests.
