- Abstract
This document specifies the design, materials, dimensions and marking requirements for cam locking couplings that serve as the link between hoses and connections to transport liquids, solids and gases, except liquid gas and steam.
For all sizes of aluminium cast material couplings and for all couplings of size DN 100, the pressure range is from −0,8 bar to 10 bar in the working temperature range from −20 °C to +65 °C. All other couplings according to this document are capable of operating within the pressure range from 0,8 bar to 16 bar in the working temperature range from −20 °C to +65 °C.

kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 is the Slovenian adoption of the CEN draft European Standard prEN 14420-7, published by SIST. It covers hose fittings with clamp units, specifically cam locking couplings. The document specifies design, materials, dimensions and marking for couplings that connect hoses to installations for liquids, solids and gases, so manufacturers, hose assemblers, specifiers and buyers can check compatibility and service limits.
What does kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 specify?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 specifies cam locking couplings for hose-to-connection service, while excluding liquid gas and steam. It also sets the main size, material, marking and test-related rules that let parts from different manufacturers work together.
The document is laid out in clauses 1 to 11, followed by one informative annex. Clauses 1 to 3 cover scope, normative references, and terms and definitions; clauses 4 to 11 cover construction, survey, connection types, designation, dimensions, materials, marking, and type testing/quality control.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Gauges for cam-locking couplings |
What are the key requirements of kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 focuses on three practical points: the coupling must seal under vibration, the parts must fit the named connection types, and the materials must suit the conveyed product. In practice, this is the part of the standard that decides whether a coupling is acceptable for manufacture, stock control, and interchange between suppliers.
Construction and operating behaviour
Clause 4 requires the lever shape, adapter shape and main gasket dimensions to be coordinated so that hose twisting and vibration in service do not lead to leakage. Cam arms must be manually operable and usable without tools. For users, that means the coupling is intended for hand operation and for repeated connection and disconnection in the field.
Clause 4 also points users to Annex A for gauges for cam-locking couplings. The note in this clause says that, when the document is met, couplers and adapters from different manufacturers remain compatible, although spare-part interchangeability other than gaskets cannot be guaranteed.
Pressure and temperature limits
The scope gives two pressure ranges tied to coupling material and size. For all sizes of aluminium cast material couplings and for all couplings of size DN 100, the working range is from −0,8 bar to 10 bar at −20 °C to +65 °C. All other couplings in the document are capable of operating within the stated range of 0,8 bar to 16 bar at the same temperature window.
Clause 4.2 adds the working temperature range for couplings fitted with nitrile butadiene rubber gaskets (NBR gaskets): −20 °C to +65 °C. For buyers and engineers, this means gasket choice and body material both affect whether the assembly fits the service conditions.
Connection types and matching parts
Clause 6 assigns the permitted connection families. The document covers coupler and adapter pairs for internal thread, external thread, welding connection, hose tail, dust cap and dust plug arrangements. Threaded types are linked to thread standards such as EN ISO 228-1 and EN 10226-1, while hose-tail versions and some dimensions refer to EN 14420-2 and EN 14420-5.
In practice, this is the clause that tells the user which coupler type matches which adapter type. It is important for ordering the right end connections and avoiding mixed pairs that do not fit.
Designation and ordering
Clause 7 gives ordering designations for a complete coupler, a complete adapter and the main gasket. The examples show the order of information: product name, EN 14420 reference, item number where relevant, nominal size, type code and material. That helps purchasing and stock systems identify exactly which part is being specified.
Dimensions and tolerances
Clause 8 gives the dimensional data for all main parts, including the coupler types DF, BF, DW, CC and DC, the cam arm, pin, ring, main gasket, thread gasket, and adapter types AF, FF, AW, EC and DP. Dimensions are in millimetres, and general tolerances are linked to EN 22768-1 and EN 22768-2.
For production and inspection, this clause is the key manufacturing reference. It defines the geometry of the coupling body, the hand lever, the locking parts and the sealing parts, and it also uses specific figures and tables for each type. Clause 8.3 adds torque and compression values for the cam arm geometry, so the lever must close with the intended gasket compression.
Materials, marking and control
Clause 9 limits the material families for bodies, cam arms, pins, rings and gaskets. The main gasket and thread gasket must be resistant to the conveyed fluid, and both must be made from non-asbestos materials. Clause 10 requires durable outside marking of the body and male parts with the standard number, manufacturer identification, type and nominal size, PN where applicable, and material number for stainless steels.
Clause 11 sends type testing and quality control to EN 14420-1:2013, Clause 7. For manufacturers, this means the general hose-fitting test and quality framework comes from Part 1, while Part 7 adds the cam locking coupling-specific design data.
What terms does kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 define?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 defines the key terms used to size and identify the couplings.
- Nominal size (DN) - an alphanumeric size designation for pipework components; the DN number is for reference and not a measured value.
- PN - an alphanumeric designation that identifies a reference combination of mechanical and dimensional characteristics of a hose fitting component.
- Main gasket - the gasket between the male and female parts of the coupling.
- Thread gasket - a flat-faced gasket for threads according to EN ISO 228-1.
Who uses kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 is used by manufacturers of hose fittings, suppliers of couplers and adapters, and engineers who design hose assemblies. It is also used by quality control teams and test labs that check dimensions, materials, marking and type tests.
In day-to-day work, it helps buyers choose compatible cam locking couplings, helps assemblers match couplers and adapters, and helps maintenance teams replace parts without changing the connection concept. It is relevant in transport systems for liquids, solids and gases where hand-operated quick connection is needed.
What changed in kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 from the previous edition?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 will supersede EN 14420-7:2022/AC:2023. The stated technical changes are limited to two editorial corrections: the symbol d6 was deleted from Figure 3 because it does not appear in the document, and the missing explanation for entry 1 was added to Figure 6.

What does the kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 document contain?
kSIST FprEN 14420-7:2026 contains survey figures for example couplings, a parts list, connection-type tables, designation examples, and detailed dimensional drawings and tables for each coupler and adapter type. It also gives the cam arm torque and gasket compression data, which are used to set the closing action of the coupling.
The materials clause lists acceptable alloy families for each component, and the marking clause states what should appear on the outside of the body and male parts. Annex A then provides a gauge drawing, a gauge designation example and a dimension table for checking cam-locking couplings during design, inspection or verification.
