Wallcoverings in roll form - Determination of migration of heavy metals and certain other elements, of vinyl chloride monomer and of formaldehyde release

This European Standard specifies three methods of test concerning respectively; test A: the migration of heavy metals and certain other elements (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, lead and selenium); test B: the determination of vinyl chloride monomer; test C: the determination of formaldehyde release. This European Standard applies to all wallcoverings in roll form.

Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt drei Prüfverfahren, die umfassen: Prüfung A: die Migration bestimmter Schwermetalle und (Antimon, Arsen, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Quecksilber, Blei und Selen); Prüfung B: das Vorhandensein von Vinylchlorid-Monomer; Prüfung C: die Bestimmung von flüchtigem Formaldehyd. Diese Europäische Norm gilt für alle Wandbekleidungen in Rollen.

La présente norme européenne spécifie dans l'ordre les trois méthodes d'essai suivantes: essai A: migration de métaux lourds et certains autres éléments (antimoine, arsenic, baryum, cadmium, chrome, mercure, plomb et sélénium); essai B: détermination du chlorure de vinyle monomère; essai C: Détermination du dégagement de formaldéhyde. La présente norme européenne s'applique à tous les revêtements muraux en rouleaux.

Overview

EN 12149:1997 (CEN) specifies standardized test methods for assessing chemical safety of wallcoverings in roll form. The standard defines three separate test procedures to determine:

• migration of selected heavy metals and certain other elements,
• content of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and
• formaldehyde release.

This European Standard applies to all types of wallcoverings supplied in rolls and is intended to support product safety, quality control and regulatory compliance.
