4 WIND ENERGY GENERATION SYSTEMS -
5 Part 40: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Requirements and test method
8 FOREWORD
9 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for
10 standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National
11 Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions
12 concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in
13 addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
14 Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred
15 to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC
16 National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory
17 work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC
18 also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International
19 Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
20 agreement between the two organizations.
21 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as
22 possible, an international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each
23 technical committee has representation from all interested IEC National Committees.
24 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted
25 by IEC National Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure
26 that the technical content of IEC Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible
27 for the way in which they are used or for any misinterpretation by any end user.
28 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply
29 IEC Publications transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and
30 regional publications. Any divergence between any IEC Publication and the corresponding
31 national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
32 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies
33 provide conformity assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of
34 conformity. IEC is not responsible for any services carried out by independent certification
35 bodies.
36 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
37 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including
38 individual experts and members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees
39 for any personal injury, property damage or other damage of any nature whatsoever,
40 whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and expenses arising out of the
41 publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC Publications.
42 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the
43 referenced publications is indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
44 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may
45 be the subject of patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all
46 such patent rights.

1 1 Scope
2 This part of IEC 61400 provides the EMC requirements and test methods that apply to the
3 individual wind turbine and all the sub systems which are part of the wind turbine.
4 The current document applies to measurements on individual wind turbines and not multiple
5 wind turbines.
6 This standard defines the requirements and test methods for the verification of the wind
7 turbine performance against radiated emissions and the immunity of their components against
8 conducted and radiated phenomena.
9 2 This standard is applicable to wind turbines to be installed at offshore and
10 onshore locations.Normative references
