ABSTRACT
This specification covers the standard requirements for porous nonreinforced concrete pipe for use in underdrains. The pipe shall be of two classes, identified as: “standard-strength porous nonreinforced concrete pipe” and “extra-strength porous nonreinforced concrete pipe.” The concrete shall consist of cementitious materials and water; wherein, the cement shall conform to the requirements for Portland cement or shall be Portland blast-furnace slag cement, slag-modified Portland cement, or Portland-pozzolan cement. The fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag shall conform to the requirements of Class F or C and Grade 100 or 120, respectively while the synthetic fibers shall be made of collated fibrillated virgin polypropylene fibers. Design requirements shall be in accordance with the internal designated diameter, wall thickness, laying length, socket depth, three-edge bearing strength, and infiltration or porosity. The pipe shall be subjected to steam curing, water curing, or combination of the two methods for a sufficient length of time to develop the specified strength requirement. Crushing tests shall be performed to determine the crushing strength of the pipes. The concrete shall consist of cementitious materials, mineral, aggregates, and water. The joints shall be of such design and the ends of the concrete pipe sections so formed that the pipe can be laid together to make a continuous line pipe. The aggregates shall be sized, graded, proportioned, and mixed with such proportions of cementitious materials, and water as will produce a homogeneous concrete mixture of such quality that the pipe will conform to test and design requirements. Pipe shall be subjected to curing. Special shapes or fittings for use with concrete pipe conforming to this specification shall be made of porous or nonporous concrete in such manner as will provide strength at least equal to the class of the adjacent pipe to which they are joined; and shall conform to all other requirements specified for pipe. The test pipe shall freed from all visible moisture. When dry, each pipe shall be measured and inspected. The crushing strength of the porous material as well as its infiltration, shall conform to the requirements.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers porous nonreinforced concrete pipe for use in underdrains.
1.2 A complete metric companion to this specification has been developed 654M; therefore, no metric equivalents are presented in this specification.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers concrete drain tile, of specific internal diameters, intended for surface and subsurface drainage. The concrete shall consist of cementitious materials, mineral aggregates, and water. The cementitious materials could be cement, fly ash, ground granulated blast surface slag, or a combination of the said materials. The physical test requirements for standard-quality tile, extra-quality tile, heavy-duty extra-quality tile, and special-quality tile are detailed in the specification. The tile shall be subjected to an external load crushing strength test and an absorption test.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers concrete drain tile with internal diameters from 4 to 36 in. that are intended to be used for surface and subsurface drainage.
1.2 A complete metric companion to Specification C412 has been developedC412M; therefore, no metric equivalents are presented in this specification.
Note 1—This specification is a manufacturing and purchase specification only and does not include requirements for bedding, backfill, or the relationship between field load condition and the strength classification of drain tile. However, experience has shown that the successful performance of the product depends upon the proper selection of the class of drain tile, type of bedding and backfill, and care that the installation conforms to the construction specifications. The owner is cautioned that he must correlate the field requirements with the class of drain tile specified and provide for or require inspection at the construction site.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers reinforced concrete pipe with rubber gasket joints to be used for the conveyance of irrigation water with working pressures, including hydraulic transients. The acceptability of the pipe, joint design, and gaskets shall be determined by the results of the tests prescribed in this specification, if and when required, and by inspection to determine whether the pipe and gaskets conform to the specification as to design and freedom from defects. Pipe manufactured in accordance with this specification shall consist of concrete, cement, fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag, allowable combinations of cementitious materials, a combination of Portland cement, admixtures and blends, and aggregates. The rubber compound used in the manufacture of the gasket shall be compounded from natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a mixture of the two fabricated as prescribed in the specification. The rubber from which the gaskets are fabricated shall have the following physical properties: ultimate elongation at break; ultimate elongation at break after aging; hardness; compression set; water absorption; and ozone resistance. If a splice is used in the manufacture of the gasket, the strength shall be such that the gasket shall withstand elongation over the part of the gasket that includes the splice with no visible separation of the splice. Test specimens shall have the following test requirements: number and type of tests; external load test requirement; and hydrostatic test requirement. Rubber gasket compound tests shall include the following: tensile strength; elongation; aging; hardness; compression set; water absorption; and ozone resistance.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers nonreinforced concrete pipe with rubber gasket joints to be used for the conveyance of irrigation water with working pressures, including hydraulic transients, as shown in Table 1.
1.2 This specification is the SI counterpart of Specification C505.
Note 1—This specification is for manufacturing and purchase only and does not include requirements for bedding, backfill, installation, or field repairs. The owner is cautioned that he must correlate field conditions with the characteristics of the pipe specified and provide inspection during installation.
