EN 15518-2:2011 - "Winter maintenance equipment - Road weather information systems - Part 2: Road weather - Recommended observation and forecast" is a CEN European Standard that defines the content, temporal frequency and spatial/vertical resolution of road weather observation and forecast products for Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS). It sets recommendations to ensure compatible, interchangeable weather products that support winter maintenance decision-making, from immediate interventions to weekly planning.

• Warnings and amendments
  • Warnings issued as soon as possible for events affecting road weather (e.g., freezing rain, heavy snow, high winds). The 24-h forecast must be amended for significant changes (e.g., precipitation onset, frost yes/no, road slipperiness, time-shifts over 3 h, >5 cm fresh snow).
• Transparency
  • Forecast providers must disclose the scientific basis, accuracy and the underlying database for products. Forecasts describe conditions without maintenance or traffic influences.
