ISO 18513:2003 defines terms used in the tourism industry in relation to the various types of tourism accommodation and other related services.

Diese Norm legt die Terminologie fest, die von der Tourismusindustrie in Zusammenhang mit den verschiedenen Arten touristischer Unterkünfte und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen verwendet wird.

Ta evropski standard podaja definicije številnih izrazov, ki se pogosto uporabljajo na področju turistične industrije. Standard je oblikovan tako, da omogoča lažje in jasnejše sporazumevanje med uporabniki in ponudniki turističnih storitev. Če so potrošniki ustrezno obveščeni, lažje sprejemajo odločitve in izbirajo med ponujenim, kar pa posledično poveča tudi verjetnost, da bodo z izbranim njihova pričakovanja izpolnjena in zadovoljstvo s storitvijo večje. Torej ima tudi turistična industrija koristi od bolje osveščenih potrošnikov. Standard SIST EN ISO 18513:2004 je namenjen tako pripravljavcem drugih standardov s področja turizma kot zakonodajalcem. Oblikovanje standardnih definicij za področje turizma je zahtevna naloga, posebej zaradi kulturnih razlik. Nekateri izrazi in pojmi niso vključeni v standard SIST EN ISO 18513:2004, ker:
– niso poznani v eni ali več državah članicah,
– jih ni bilo mogoče ustrezno prevesti ali opisati v enem ali dveh od treh uradnih jezikov standarda,
– zaradi nacionalnih, zakonodajnih ali kulturnih razlik ni bil vedno dosežen konsenz.

This European Standard was approved by CEN on 9 September 2002.
