This standard specifies safety requirements and test methods for descenders used for mountaineering and climbing.

Diese Norm legt sicherheitstechnische Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für Bremsgeräte zum Bergsteigen und Klettern fest, mit oder ohne Geschwindigkeitskontrolle und mit oder ohne automatisches Blockieren, um vor einem Absturz aus der Höhe zu schützen.
Diese Norm gilt für Bremsgeräte, die von einer Person benutzt werden. Sie gilt nicht für vollautomatische ortsfeste Einrichtungen.

La présente norme spécifie les exigences de sécurité et les méthodes d'essai relatives aux dispositifs de freinage utilisés pour l'alpinisme et l'escalade, avec ou sans contrôle de vitesse, et avec ou sans blocage automatique de protection contre les chutes de hauteur.
La présente norme s’applique aux dispositifs de freinage individuels. Elle ne s’applique pas aux installations automatiques fixes.
