External fire exposure of roofs and roof coverings - Extended application of test results from CEN/TS 1187

This document gives guidance on the process and development of extended fields of application using test results obtained from CEN/TS 1187, tests 1 to 4, and included in test reports, and other relevant information in order to evaluate and classify the performance of roofs/roof coverings. This document provides a methodology to consider the possible effect(s) on classification to EN 13501-5 from single or multiple changes to the individual product and end-use application parameters of the roof/roof covering.
Specific application guidance is given in Annex A, Annex B, Annex C and Annex D for CEN/TS 1187, tests 1 to 4 respectively.

Dieses Dokument liefert einen Leitfaden für den Prozess und die Entwicklung der erweiterten Anwendungsbereiche unter der Anwendung der in den Prüfungen 1 bis 4 nach CEN/TS 1187 erzielten und in Prüfberichten enthaltenen Prüfergebnisse und anderer einschlägiger Informationen zur Bewertung und Klassifizierung der Leistungsfähigkeit von Dächern/Bedachungen. Dieses Dokument legt eine Vorgehensweise fest, mit der die möglichen Auswirkungen einer einzelnen oder mehrfachen Änderung der einzelnen Produktparameter und Endanwendungsparameter des Daches/der Bedachung auf die Klassifizierung nach EN 13501 5 in Betracht zu ziehen sind.
In den Anhängen A, B, C und D werden spezifische Leitlinien für die Anwendung der Prüfungen 1 bis 4 nach CEN/TS 1187 gegeben.

Le présent document fournit des recommandations relatives au processus et au développement de domaines d’applications étendues en utilisant les résultats d’essai de la CEN/TS 1187, essais 1 à 4, et inclus dans des rapports d’essai, ainsi que d’autres informations pertinentes afin d’évaluer et de classer les performances de toitures/couvertures. Le présent document fournit une méthodologie permettant d’étudier l’effet ou les effets éventuels sur le classement selon l’EN 13501‐5 de modifications simples ou multiples apportées aux produits individuels et aux paramètres d’utilisation finale de la toiture/couverture.
Des lignes directrices d’application spécifiques sont données respectivement dans l’Annexe A, l’Annexe B, l’Annexe C et l’Annexe D pour les essais 1 à 4 de la CEN/TS 1187.

Ta dokument podaja smernice o postopku in razvoju razširjenih področij uporabe na podlagi rezultatov, pridobljenih iz preskusov CEN/TS 1187 1–4 in vključenih v poročila o preskusih, ter druge ustrezne informacije za oceno in razvrstitev zmogljivosti streh/strešnih kritin. Ta dokument podaja metodologijo za upoštevanje možnih vplivov na razvrstitev v skladu s standardom EN 13501-5 zaradi ene ali več sprememb posameznega izdelka in parametrov končne uporabe strehe/strešne kritine. Navodila za specifično uporabo so podana v dodatku A, dodatku B, dodatku C in dodatku D za CEN/TS 1187, preskusi 1–4.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 16 September 2019 for provisional application.

The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to
submit their comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.

CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS
available promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in
parallel to the CEN/TS) until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.

Test methods for external fire exposure to roofs

This Technical Specification specifies four methods for determining the performance of roofs to external fire exposure. The four methods assess the performance of roofs under the following conditions:
a)   test 1 - with burning brands;
b)   test 2 - with burning brands and wind;
c)   test 3 - with burning brands, wind and supplementary radiant heat;
d)   test 4 - with two stages  incorporating burning brands, wind and supplementary radiant heat.
The tests assess the fire spread across the external surface of the roof, the fire spread within the roof (tests 1, 2 and 3), the fire penetration (tests 1, 3 and 4) and the production of flaming droplets or debris falling from the underside of the roof or from the exposed surface (tests 1, 3 and 4).
Tests 2 and 3 are not applicable to geometrically irregular roofs or roof mounted appliances, e.g. ventilators and roof lights.
NOTE   The four tests listed above do not imply any ranking order. Each test stands on its own without the possibility to substitute or exchange one for another.

This document specifies design, type test methods, marking and instruction requirements for cylinder valves with integrated pressure regulators (VIPRs) intended to be fitted to gas cylinders, pressure drums or tubes or used as a main valve for bundles of cylinders that convey compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases.
These are requirements for VIPRs that are in addition to those given in the relevant closure standard, for example, in ISO 10297 for cylinder valves, in ISO 17871 for quick-release cylinder valves, in ISO 17879 for self-closing cylinder valves or in ISO 23826 for ball valves. For ISO 17871, these requirements are only applicable to quick-release cylinder valves types B, C, D and E.
NOTE 1        If the pressure regulating system of a VIPR is acting as the primary valve operating mechanism, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826. This also includes designs where closure of the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is obtained by closing the seat of the pressure regulating system.
NOTE 2        If the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is located at the low-pressure side of the pressure regulating system, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826.
NOTE 3        The term “pressure receptacle” is used within this document to cover instances where no differentiation is necessary between gas cylinders, bundles of cylinders, pressure drums and tubes.
This document does not apply to VIPRs for
a)       medical applications (see ISO 10524-3);
b)       liquefied petroleum gas (LPG);
c)        cryogenic applications.
NOTE 4        Additional requirements for a VIPR with a residual pressure device (RPD) are specified in ISO 15996.
