EN 13062:2003 (CEN) specifies a laboratory test method to determine the thixotropy (sagging behaviour) of products and systems intended for the protection of reinforcement in concrete structures. The method produces objective, repeatable data on coating sag that can be used for quality control, product development and selection of appropriate protective systems.

  • After (24 ± 2) h measure dry-film thickness at defined positions (measurements 10 ± 1 mm from each long edge; five readings at each position).
  • Record mean values for the horizontally stored plate (h) and for the vertically stored plate (top vt and bottom vb readings).

• Results & reporting: Results are expressed as a percentage thixotropy value derived from measured mean thicknesses. The test report must include method reference, laboratory and manufacturer details, sample identification, applied wet thickness, storage conditions, measurement method, individual and mean thickness values, the thixotropy result and any deviations.
