Adhesives for load-bearing timber structures - Test methods - Part 7: Determination of the working life under referenced conditions

This European Standard specifies a method for determining the working life for adhesives mixed with hardener for load-bearing timber structures, by a viscosity test.
This method is not suitable for determining the working life of a multi-component adhesive whose actual working life is very short.
This document is only intended for obtaining a reliable basis for comparison between adhesives. The method gives results which cannot be applied to the safe manufacture of timber structures without modifications for the influences of factory temperature and relative air humidity.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Gebrauchsdauer für mit Härter gemischte Klebstoffe für tragende Holzbauteile mit einer Viskositätsprüfung fest.
Dieses Verfahren ist nicht geeignet zur Bestimmung der Gebrauchsdauer eines Mehrkomponentenklebstoffs, dessen tatsächliche Gebrauchsdauer sehr kurz ist.
Dieses Dokument dient nur dazu, Klebstoffe auf einer zuverlässigen Grundlage zu vergleichen. Die nach diesem Verfahren erhaltenen Ergebnisse können nicht unverändert für die zuverlässige Herstellung von Holzbauteilen verwendet werden, ohne die Einflüsse von Verarbeitungstemperatur und relativer Luftfeuchte zu berücksichtigen.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie une méthode permettant de déterminer, à partir d'un essai de viscosité, la durée d'utilisation des adhésifs mélangés à un durcisseur pour structures portantes en bois dans des conditions de référence.
Cette méthode n'est pas applicable pour déterminer la durée d'utilisation d'un adhésif multi-composants dont la durée de vie réelle est très courte.
Le présent document vise seulement à fournir une base fiable de comparaison des adhésifs. La méthode fournit des résultats qui ne sont pas applicables sans risque à la fabrication de structures en bois, sans des modifications prenant en compte l'influence de la température et de l'humidité relative de l'air dans l'usine.

Ta del standarda EN 302 opisuje metodo za določanje dobe trajanja lepil za nosilne lesene strukture s preskusom viskoznosti. Ta metoda ni ustrezna za določanje dobe trajanja večkomponentnega lepila z zelo kratko dobo trajanja. Ta dokument je namenjen le za pridobivanje zanesljive podlage za primerjavo lepil. Z metodo se pridobijo rezultati, ki jih ni mogoče uporabiti za varno proizvodnjo lesenih struktur brez prilagoditev zaradi vplivov tovarniške temperature in relativne vlažnosti zraka.

This document provides guidelines describing the adhesive bonding quality requirements suitable for use by adhesive user-companies utilizing adhesive bonding as a means of fabrication. In particular, the guidelines define various approaches to meeting quality requirements for fabrication and reporting procedures, both in workshops and on site. These guidelines aim to convey the importance of maintaining quality standards in fabrication and reporting procedures, keeping records and thus enabling documentation to provide the basis for risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures in service and in use.
These guidelines have been prepared such that:
a) they are independent of the type of adhesively bonded structure;
b) they are independent of adhesive user-companies’ and suppliers’ product recommendations;
c) they define the quality requirements for adhesive bonding in terms of fabrication and reporting procedures, both in workshops and on site;
d) they can be used as the basis for risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures in service and in use;
e) they can be used as a basis for assessing a fabricator's capability to produce adhesively bonded structures fulfilling specified quality requirements when they are detailed in one or more of the following:
—    a contract between the parties involved;
—    an application standard;
—    a regulatory statement.
The guidelines contained within this document can be adopted in full or selectively chosen by the adhesive user to suit the structure concerned. The guidelines provide a flexible framework for the control of adhesive bonding activities in the following cases.
Case 1
The provision of specific requirements for adhesive bonding in contracts that require the adhesive user to have a quality system other than ISO 9001.
Case 2
The provision of specific requirements for adhesive bonding as guidance to an adhesive user developing a quality system.
Case 3
The provision of specific requirements for references in application standards that uses adhesive bonding as part of its requirements or in a contract between relevant parties.
Case 4
The provision of a framework for fabrication and reporting procedures to a quality standard, suitable in particular as a basis for the risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures.

The performance requirements of this document are applicable to the adhesives only, not to the timber products. This document does not cover the performance of adhesives for on-site gluing (except for factory-like conditions) or the production of wood-based panels, except solid wood panels, or modified and stabilized wood with considerably reduced swelling and shrinkage properties, e.g. acetylated wood, heat treated wood and polymer impregnated wood.
This document is primarily intended for use by adhesive manufacturers and for use in timber products bonded with adhesives, to assess or control the quality of adhesives. This document only specifies the performance of an adhesive for use in an environment corresponding to the defined conditions.
Such an adhesive meeting the requirements of this document for its type is adequate for use in load-bearing timber products, provided that the bonding process has been carried out according to an appropriate product standard.
