61988-2-2  IEC:2003– 5 –INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION___________PLASMA DISPLAY PANELS –Part 2-2: Measuring methods – OptoelectricalFOREWORD(1)The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardizationcomprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is topromote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronicfields. To this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC published International Standards. Their pre-paration is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation isentrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with mayparticipate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaisingwith the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the InternationalOrganization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between thetwo organizations.(2)The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, aninternational consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee hasrepresentation from all interested National Committees.(3)The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in theform of standards, technical specifications, technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the NationalCommittees in that sense.(4)In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC InternationalStandards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standard. Anydivergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearlyindicated in the latter.(5)The IEC provides no making procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for anyequipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards.(6)Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be thesubject of patent rights. The IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.International Standard IEC 61988-2-2 has been prepared by subcommittee 47C: Flat paneldisplay devices, of IEC technical committee 47: Semiconductor devices. The text of this standard is based on the following documents:FDISReport on voting47C/286/FDIS47C/293/RVDFull information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report onvoting indicated in the above table. This publication has been drafted in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.

61988-2-2  IEC:2003– 9 –PLASMA DISPLAY PANELS –Part 2-2: Measuring methods – Optoelectrical1 ScopeThis part of IEC 61988 determines the following measuring methods for characterising theperformance of colour plasma display modules:a) bright-room contrast ratio;b) module power and current consumption;c) module luminous efficacy.2 Normative referencesThe following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest editionof the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.IEC 61988-1:, Plasma display panels – Part 1: Terminology and letter symbols 4IEC 60068-1, Environmental testing – Part 1: General and guidanceIEC 60107-1, Methods of measurement on receivers for television broadcast transmissions –Part 1: General considerations – Measurement at radio and video frequencies3 DefinitionsFor the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in IEC 61988-1,IEC 60068-1 and IEC 60107-1 apply.4 Structure of measuring equipmentThe system diagrams and/or driving conditions of the measuring equipment shall comply withthe structure specified in each item.5 Standard measuring conditions5.1 Environmental conditionsMeasurements shall be carried out at the standard measuring position (refer to Figure 1) aftersufficient warm-up time under the standard environmental conditions, e.g. at a temperature of25 °C ± 3 °C, a relative humidity of 25 % to 85 %, and pressure of 86 kPa to 106 kPa.
Whendifferent environmental conditions are used, these shall be noted on the report.———————4 To be published.

61988-2-2  IEC:2003– 11 –5.2 Lighting conditions5.2.1 Dark-room conditionsIlluminance at any location all over the screen of the colour plasma display shall be less than1 lx. When this illuminance significantly affects the measurement of the black level, thebackground subtraction method shall be used. When a different illuminance or the backgroundsubtraction method is used, this shall be noted on the report.5.2.2 Bright-room conditionsThe lamp shall be adjusted so that the vertical- and horizontal-plane illuminance conditionsare satisfied at the centre of the panel, which has been arranged vertically. The illuminance precision shall be ±5 % and the measured illuminance shall be clearly notedon each specification. When a different illuminance is used, this shall be noted on the report.a) Illuminance on the panelVertical-plane illuminance:100 lxHorizontal-plane illuminance: 70 lxb)Illumination sourceA colour-rendering daylight white (JIS Z 9112-1990 type N-EDL) straight tube fluorescentlamp shall be used. If the illuminance conditions cannot be met with one lamp, a groupof lamps may be used. It is permissible to use luminance adjustable lamps. The fluorescent lamp(s) shall be used under the recommended operation conditions: forexample, after 100 h of ageing but before they have been in use for 2 000 h.c) Placement of illumination source and display panelThe panel shall be mounted in a vertical plane. The long axes of lamps are arranged sothat they are horizontal to the floor and parallel to the plane of the panel. The centre of thelamps shall be arranged within a normal vertical plane which is normal to the panel faceand intersects the centre of the panel (see Figure 2).d) Adjustment of illuminanceThe illumination shall be adjusted – by adjusting the illumination source output or theposition of the lamp(s) or by moving the display panel – so that the vertical- andho
